Hi folks Penny my 22wk whilring dervish has now decided that she wants the world to know she is here. She barks at nothing and everything. Outside when she is in the garden it can be constant ..it varies from day to day. I am looking for reasons but see or hear nothing. She is generally fine when out and about i suppose i am aware that a dog barking loudly might not go down too well with neighbours ( good job she can charm them). I try to distract her but at night when i just want her out and back in after she does the toilet its not so great...i suppose some bark more than others
Oh boy do I know this - I am in the process of training "speak" and "quiet" as Bailey can be rather vocal when he wants to play, engage someone, is impatient for something, thinks he's being left out of a conversation....or his toy has rolled out of his reach and he can't be bothered to move to get it! Success at the moment is up and down with some days working better than others. I think you are right some are more vocal than others - my sisters boy is very vocal at the slightest thing and if Bailey is with him then I think he just joins in because he can!
Plum used to bark at odd things when she was tiny, her food bowl, the fire guard!! That was hilarious, she'd just go barking crazy at the brass ring on the fire guard. But she's stopped that now. She barks in the garden if she sees someone through the fence, but not always, and she's just started running up to a corner of the garden at night, when doing her last wee, and having a growl and a bark. No idea why. I have a garden light and when this is on she barks more so at the moment I'm going out with her with a torch and she's quieter, not sure if my and her shadows were giving her the heebie jeebies? I thought about training "speak" and "quiet" but I haven't done so yet. I'm able to manage the current barking behaviour. You may find Penny grows out of it to an extent.
I would interact, -lay games and train any time that you are out. Here is some great information - https://www.thelabradorsite.com/labrador-barking/ .
Thanks everyone..i cant grumble so much as she is generally good inside and on walks and off lead ..its just in her own back garden boy oh boy i am out with her and she thinks its great fun haha x
