we'd seen links to dock dogs on here and I always thought Barney would love it but any events were always miles away. However this weekend the first ever UK Dock Dogs club has opened and it's in Leighton Buzzard, Beds just half an hour from me. It's their launch weekend - on until 6pm today and will be open all day sunday and monday too. I found about about it as my friend Gaynor has designed their banners etc. So Gayor and I took Barney this morning. It's so new we were only the second dog to arrive! It was £15 as a non member to have a session which lasts all day - as many goes as the dog wants. I thought Barney would hesitate at the edge which he did but he really did want the tennis ball and after a few non starts finally went in. Gradually getting more confident until he was making 8ft leaps. This was amazing from a standing start as despite a run up he would stop at the edge then jump. With practice he'll learn to run and jump without hesitating so show's great promise. Apparently 8ft is really good for a beginner ;D proud lab Mum! Here he is in action

Re: Barney tries out dock dogs That looks great! There are so many alternative ways to exercise a dog than walks - thanks to this forum, learning about them all the time. (Though we have a way to go before we can think about dock dogs!)

Re: Barney tries out dock dogs Forgot to say was a much bigger turn out today - loads of labs and a few collies. I shouldn't be but must admit to being quite smug that the labs did pretty well - even the nervy ones got there in the end but the collies didn't. It makes such a change for collies to be on the back paw hehehe.
