I am thinking of giving the garlic tablets for flea and tick and mosquitos. also the bee pollen for skin and coat. it also says it will help with the immune system. Has anyone heard of this? what else would be advisable for both these things?
Two Socks goes for her first year check up in one month and I am looking into this along with information on Heart protection.
    thanks

For skin and coat I can absolutely recommend salmon oil! But get a good quality one....

Garlic is considered dangerous for dogs - like onions. Although a vet told me small amounts would be good for immunity. We eat a lot of garlic and, as a sample of two, I can tell you the mosquitoes couldn’t care less!!! We are attacked by mosquitoes while we try to sleep in bed!

You could try a repellent on your dog. I’m told Wondercide (with cedar bark) is a good natural repellent. I’ve not used it.

Thank you very much! I didn't know that Garlic is considered dangerous for dogs. I won't be giving her this for sure. I am so shock by all the stuff out there. I am thankful to be able to come here and ask. Two Socks is doing great! she is 13 months and full of energy.

There is much debate on whether garlic is dangerous or not. Some people add it to their dog’s food and swear by the health-giving properties. We eat a lot of garlic and Snowie eats our food with it and he’s fine, we don’t worry. But given that some people worry about it’s not being good for dogs, I felt I had to mention it.

I have always considered a little garlic to be ok, but definitely wouldn't overdo it as it is part of the toxic onion family.
I know that locally made honey can help with allergies for some people/dogs.
Billy no Mates is a "herbal" product sold to help deter fleas and I know others have suggested a cider vinegar spray.
Unfortunately, none of these have any hard evidence of efficacy. Granted (apart from xs garlic) unlikely to cause too much harm.
Unless you have good medical reasons to avoid the conventional tick and flea products, I would go with your vets advice for best treatment in your area.
And your dog will always love you or a ood squirt of salmon oil :D

I agree @drjs@5 - I also wouldn’t give it every day as the toxin can build up over time.
