I'm a Home Beer Brewer and always have a bunch of "spent grains" after a brew day Mostly 2 row barley, Wheat and some adjunct grains My past dog "The Ringo" was my brew buddy and I used to give him grain straight out of the Mash Tun One day my wife said "why not make treats for him from the spent grain so he can have them on non-brew days" After some research I came up with this Spent Grain Dog Treats ( Ringo Beer Treats) 4 cups spent grain 2 cups flour 1 cup peanut butter (all natural) 2 eggs Mix all ingredients thoroughly. Press down into a dense layer on a large cookie sheet. Score almost all the way through into the shapes you want. Bake for about half an hour at 350 F to solidify them. Loosen them from the sheet, break the biscuits apart and return them, loosely spread out on the cookie sheet, to the oven at 225 F for 3 to 4 hours (or until they are really dry) to prevent mold growth. Store in an airtight container to keep them dry and mold-free. Ringo LOVED THEM!!!!!!!!! as did his buddy Bentley (our neighbor's Lab) Can't wait till my next brew day so I can make them for my new Molly Girl ETA: None of these grains have been fermented, they are just soaked in water to make the wort that gets boiled, hopped and fermented
Good use of brewing by-products!!! Spent grain is used as cattle feed here in Oz. But why should the doggies miss out? I'm sure Molly will be a very enthusiastic brew buddy
