What I have been doing is telling the dog NO when she bites hard, or she runs somewhere she is not supposed to, or bites the wooden chair legs or any number of other things. Hopefully this is correct. If not please let me know.

The point of this post is.. when I tell her NO! She will raise her backside up, stretch out her front paws, essentally put her head/chin near the floor and make a weird whining/"growl" type of noise. I dont think its aggressive or vicious and growl is really not the right word. I dont know the right word, but growl is closest. I think one of two things. She thinks we are playing very rough and is responding with rough noises OR she understands me saying no and reacts with something like " I know you said not to, but I dont care".

Is this normal?? Can/should I do something about this? Thanks for any and all words of wisdom.

She is doing a 'play bow' and is asking you to play with her! Perfectly normal I'm afraid, while a bit unsettling for you!!! It's because she's so young still and doesn't really yet understand the rules - and maybe somehow she has picked up that you find this behaviour funny, or cute???

The best way to deal with any behaviour you don't like is to say a firm 'no' (as you are doing), and then turn your back and ignore her for a short while. She wants your attention more than anything in the world, so removing that from her for a few seconds is the best way to show that you don't like being bitten. If she is biting the chair leg, say 'no', and remove her from the chair. If she goes back to it, say 'no', and put her in another room (or her crate) for a few seconds. But don't overuse the crate as a punishment - you don't want her associating it with being punished. You get the idea.

As for running places she is not supposed to - at this age, baby gates and shut doors are your friend. It is much, much easier to control and teach a puppy in a limited area, than if the pup has the run of the house.
