I was wondering if anyone else's dog does this? :)

What happens is Benson takes something usually mine..a slipper, croc, sometimes a soft toy. He trots out a short distance, drops it, picks it up, then trots back to me and tries to give it to my hand, failing that my lap. It is too darned cute! It is turning into one of his favourite inside games.
It does make me wonder though, what went through his brain to put the pattern together, and work out the reward had more value if he attached a retrieve to it? Or is it simply he has a sense of humour?:D
The mind boggles, but I truly love him for it...:inlove:

Awwww....Benson - you are too cute!

And my vote that it is because he has a sense of humour. I always love a dog who can tell a good dog joke. :*

Monty does something similar, takes it just a few steps out of reach, then brings it back to my lap, but often doesn't quite let go of it... Almost but not quite... I call it teasing for a tug fight... game on... as long as it's not of value.

(most popular item is the dustpan brush?! We have gone though 20+ since having him. I only buy at a pound a piece now)

    Aw Benson, cheeky chappy :D

Yes, Charlie does this and he is not a retriever at all except things that aren't his, he brings them to me and gets a treat  He does a really weird thing which is if David leaves the house he steals something from his briefcase or shoe and if I leave he takes my scarf or slipper and takes them to his bed almost out of protest  Strange dog!! xx

Rory finds small objects then gets on my knee all 30kgs if him and I have to explore his mouth to find them. The things are small and his chops are massive. I've found stones bottle caps money and sweet rappers. He hides them under his tongue and in the folds of his saggy chops.he's done it since he's tiny he just wants an excuse to sit on my knee. He walks into the room and i know hes got something because he looks all giggly

Benson sounds a fun dog. My dog will put his tennis ball down when we are out walking and I don't notice, then suddenly aware he is in front of me indicating "go on, ask me to fetch my tennis ball" - so I say 'go back' and off he goes, sometimes for a hundred yards, saves me throwing the ball! Does his own retrieves :D
