Hello! We are proud forever parents of a beautiful yellow lab pup named Mazie. She is now 9 weeks old. We have put her crate at night in our room. I feel like she see's me when I roll over and then cries to go out. I was thinking of moving it to the kitchen tonight to see if she will sleep longer? Is this a good idea?
Hello and welcome to the forum from me, Willow and Shadow. Lots of people have their pups sleep in the same room as them for the first few nights to help them settle in. I didn't do this because the crate was too big to easily move around, so Willow slept in the living room from night one. It didn't do her any harm, but she wasn't a big cryer. She maybe cried for fifteen minutes for the first couple of nights, and then a couple of times over the next week or so once I put her back to bed after toilet breaks. A nine-week-old puppy almost certainly won't be able to go through the night without needing a toilet break, so you should be setting your alarm for at least twice during the night to let her out. At first, I set mine for every two and a half hours, and increased by 15 minutes every night. This was disrupted a bit by her having a poorly tummy for a while, so I slept in the living room with her over that period, but then went back to the alarm until she could sleep through comfortably. We'd love to see a picture off Miss Mazie
Thank you! We will give it a try. Mazie has been fantastic for sleeping. Out of the 9 nights we have had her she has been up 2X for 2 of them, slept through 11-5 for 2 of them and the balance up once. I am going to try her in the kitchen. I will definitely be able to hear her if she cries but I won't disrupt her sleep. either.
Juno slept in her crate in our bedroom for the first 10 or 11 days she was with us and then in the kitchen in her crate. No problems at all with crying. I just got up once in the night to take her out but made a point of not talking to her or greeting her when I got downstairs - just out of the crate, lead on, out in the garden, pee and poo and back to bed - and she settled again without any problems or crying. Good luck with moving her to the kitchen
Bailey slept in the bedroom in a box the first night and then it was crate in the kitchen . And we got up 2 hourly for the first few nights . Then put him to bed at 12 3, 5 7. . After a week Harry was leaving a note saying too tired at three , Tasmin would getting up at five, and we would get up at seven , Few weeks 12-6 , then 11- 6 Luckily had kids home from uni, starting jobs at 4 and 6 am! Now a year 11-7, I think no one left kitchen in the evenings till about 5-6 months ,,,,,, Good luck it passes , the sleepless nights x
It went awesome last night! Mazie asked to go out once in the night and I took her out with little interaction. She peed and went back into her crate. A couple minor whimpers and she was back asleep. I woke her when I got up and when I left for work she went back in the crate and fell back asleep. My husband woke her this morning!
Hi, my 8 week old charlie does the same as masie...if he sees us around he starts crying to come out of it and we couldn't sleep then so had to take him out and then he sometimes wee/poop sometimes dont and gets back to sleep on the floor and hates to get back to crate. So what do you suggest should i keep his crate out in another room and keep my alarms for the night? Hez been sleeping in our bedroom from day one sometimes in crate sometimes out of it.
Once we moved Mazie to the Kitchen she sleeps through the night. She has a couple times cried to go out a little earlier then normal which is no problem. But we now know that we are not interrupting her sleep. She is doing much better there. I put a ticking clock close to her crate as I heard that makes them think of their mom and a heart beat. Seems to be working! Good luck with Charlie!!
