I'd be grateful for a opinion here. My younger son is of the opinion that I should stop Simba (13 wk old yellow lab) jumping on Minstrel (5 year old chocolate lab) when she is laying down. Minstrel does not appear to mind Simba climbing all over her and will do the open month bitey face thing. She doesn't tend to get up unless she gets really excited and starts to spin in circles (I call time out them for them to calm down). I do intervene if he start to go for her legs as that is just mean!!

Minstrel is in season at the moment and I think that is why she is less energetic in responding to Simba.

Simba doesn't try to play with our oldest dog as he knows she doesn't like it. Initially when he first tried to get poppy to play with him Minstrel would get in between them to stop Simba bothering Poppy until he got the message. He does not try this game with other dogs who he meets on walks and just enjoys playing without the play bites.

Should I continue to let Simba jump on Minstrel when she is laying down as in my mind they have to sort things by themselves.

    Grateful for opinions

    Lisax

As long as Minstrel is happy to play, I'd let them get on with it - within reason. I also let my puppy bite my older dogs' legs, as it's just part of the game. In fact, I often play grabby-leg with them, too :)

Sounds like Minstrel has got a good handle on things!
Think you are doing just fine.
