Morning all, I'm a bit worried about Maisie. The last 3 days she has had a very upset stomach and has been producing what I can only describe as yellow "cow pats". She has also started to look thin around her waist. This morning she had me up at 5am and had another runny poo, we have just been out and she passed a semi solid poo, but with quite a lot of blood. I have been feeding her chicken or fish and rice and she hasn't had any treats. Probably best to phone the vets in the morning? She is due for a wormer, but would worms cause an upset tum? She does look sorry for herself.
Re: Blood in poo? Poor girl , my lad had blood in his poo after a severe tummy upset , its often caused by straining but yes, your Vet is the person to chat to and if you take her, take a sample of the poo with you , hope she gets better soon .
Re: Blood in poo? Harley used to get blood in her poo, especially after having a funny tummy - my vet said as long as the blood was red it was due to her straining, but I would double check with the vets tomorrow. Hope Maisie is ok x
Re: Blood in poo? Maisie could have colitis. This is an upset stomach caused by irritation to the large intestine. Blood isn't uncommon. My old lab used to get it regularly. :-\ You say she has an upset stomach. Is there jelly like mucus in the diarrhea and is it quite thick diarrhea rather than pure liquid.(Sorry) If yes then I'd put money on colitis. It can be caused by a bug or something she's eaten that hasn't agreed with her and possibly worms. She does need to see a vet unfortunately. You may be given antibiotics and anti inflammatories. Hope Maisie ferns better soon.

Re: Blood in poo? Thank you for all your comments. Looks like a vets visit tomorrow. I've had a couple of other dog owners say that their pooches haven't been well too, so maybe a bug is going round.

Re: Blood in poo? Sara had the same thing with parasites (campylobacter). Take a sample into the vet. It was easy to clear up
Re: Blood in poo? Back from the vets and the vet thinks Maisie has Gastroenteritis. So we have special wet food, antibiotics and probiotics. I also mentioned while I was there that she keeps getting a small amount of white discharge in the corner of her eyes and on inspection she had really red/sore eyes under her bottom eye lids - vet said she has conjunctivitis, so drops as well! Poor girl On a good note though, I was worried that she was looking too thin (weighed 18.1 kg today), but the vet was not at all concerned just a slim girl!
Re: Blood in poo? Oh no, poor Maisie :'( Harley had gastroenteritis a few weeks ago. Good that they have diagnosed it so quickly and hopefully the meds will work their magic quickly. Big hugs to you both x

Thanks Ternya, yes they were very efficient, I'm just feeling very guilty though that I hadn't noticed how red her eyes were....the vet said she will need further treatment if the drops don't clear it up in 3 days. I had asked a number of people who owned dogs what they would do and they all said just wipe away and it would just be an allergy....just goes to show you should do with your gut instinct in the first place. It's like being a new mum all over again!!!!
