So we got the all clear from the vet last week... took Bob out off lead for the first time today and he's now limping again. It wasn't even a long walk, just a quick one before I went to work. I'm so worried it's something sinister which is why it keeps returning. Back to the vets again tomorrow I think... Poor boy.... I feel more crate rest coming on....

Least we are insured - I think he probably needs an x-ray.

I thought it was his right front, but now I'm not so sure... defo a front leg though. I find it hard when I'm walking him to tell as I look down on him. Really I need to have him trotted up by someone else to see what's going on. But I'd rather not do that - might as well wait for the vet's opinion.

It could be elbows couldn't it?! I've just checked Bob's file and his dad was 0 for elbows and hips. And his mum was 2 on hips... They were both scored for eyes. But I don't think mum had an elbow score. At least I don't have one in the file. God I'm going to start worrying now...

Try not to worry but best to see the vet as soon as possible. Juno started limping on her left front leg at 5 months. Anti-inflammatories and restricted exercise sorted it out for it to recur at 7 months. Again the limp started on the left but she also alternated with a limp on the right. My vet booked her for x-rays straight away and sent them of to an orthopaedic specialist for review. It was Jean-Baptiste who spotted the problem and then sent us for an MRI to assess better. Juno's parents both have 0 elbow scores but there is a lot of genes at play. I won't say don't worry because you will, but limps can have a variety of causes - not all are sinister. Let us know how he gets on

Don't start worrying. We always imagine the worst but it's usually not the worst. Going back to the vet is a good idea though, and also talking with them about more detailed investigations.

Hopefully it's nothing. But even if it's something it will be manageable and things will be ok.

We have had lots and lots of limps on the forum, and most have turned out to be nothing. Muscle injuries, sprains, even simple growing pains. :) Do get it investigated properly, but don't worry until then. Easier said than done, I know.

Nothing to feel stupid about, we all worry about our pups. It goes with the territory. That's why we join the forum as well, to share our fears and worries together with our joy and successes. Enjoy your glass of wine :D

Best of luck for tomorrow with Bob, fingers and paws crossed it's nothing sinister. And as for feeling stupid please don't. I've been there and got the t-shirt. Lucky we have the forum.

Well the vet checked Bob again. She is still unsure as to whether it's a soft tissue injury (which could take a while to heal) or anything related to his elbow. So we made the decision to keep him on very minimal lead walking (start at 5 mins x3/day and build up to 10 or 15 mins x3 a day) and more metacam over the next 2 weeks to give it a really good chance to heal - IF it IS a sprain. If after this we still have a problem we shall X ray him. So fingers crossed further rest and medication help and it's nothing more than a simple sprain.

Oh and will be buying some of those dog boot thingies for him to wear in the house so he has more grip. I'm convinced our slippery floor is part (if not all) of the problem.

At least he's not been confined to his crate this time and can at least get out during the day still.. albeit for 5 mins at a time to start with.

    Lou x

Oh how frustrating for you both, fingers crossed for Bob this sorts things out. Glad he can get out for 5 min walks it's definitely better than nothing. X

I hope things start improving for Bob soon. I don't know about sprains in dogs but I sprained my ankle on Easter Monday and it still gives me some jip. A friend who broke a couple of bones in her foot a few days after me healed much quicker.
It's hard not to worry about our furry family as we love them so much and just want them to be happy and well. X

That's good Louise. It can take a while. They don't understand the concept of rest, do they.

We got Booties from the pet shop ,a brand called Trixie

I got them because he had grazed his paws quite badly .To be honest....he hated them,he didn't do a poo for 24 hours in them and they definitely changed his gait,he walked like he was wearing flippers so that might complicate an existing problem .....there are non slip socks you can buy too but some dogs chew them off ,Dexter didn't but I needed to tape them at the top to keep them on or they just slip off. When we've been stuck in the house through hotmSummers and I was training Dexter to Do his agility equipment I used to put t down the cheap rubber flooring you can buy in pieces to stop him slipping on our tiled floors...might be an idea?
