Well the op went very well and I collected Bob just after 4pm. He ate at the vets and kept it down and has had a chew and a few pieces of chicken since he's been home. He seems to have an appetite which is good news. Will give him some chicken, rice and gravy for dins. He's very sleepy so we are leaving him alone in his crate to chill and we've got the stair gate up again to keep him downstairs for a few days. The doorbell just went and he got up to see who it was which was nice and he had a lovely waggy tail when OH got home. We got the cone on him by giving him some raw chicken which he loved and he just stood there looking dopey for a while. But we've decided to take it off while we are around as the cone makes it difficult for him to get in and out of his crate and around our living area. We will put it on again at bedtime when he doesn't need to move about. He's not whined at all which is great. And we've got some pain killers to give him over the next 4 days. Follow up at the vets this Thursday for a post op check. The stitches will dissolve apparently so he doesn't need to go in again to have them removed. So proud of my boy, bless him. The vet said they all loved him (bet they say that to all the owners lol) but apparently he's had lots and lots of cuddles today. Lou x
Glad it all went well. Sounds like you have got a good approach there to managing it all, post-op. He'll be 100% back to normal very soon
Thank you all, I think he's done brilliantly actually he's had a very chilled night. I've stayed downstairs all evening to check he wasn't licking and he just started a little bit before bedtime, so we popped the cone on before shutting him up in the crate. He didn't make much fuss at all seeing as he's hardly had it on before. Hopefully he'll have a good nights sleep and feel less groggy in the morning.
Yup Day 2 and he's defo back to his old self! He's been such a good boy. We are doing loose lead training at the moment, our trainer thought the 7-10 day recovery window of just lead walking would be a good opportunity to sort it out! He was pulling loads with me, but not OH when he took him out earlier. SO annoying! Anyway, I shall persevere, I must look like a right numpty standing still holding a whining dog on the lead in town lol!
