Homer's been limping for a few days, limping quite noticbly not wanting to put any pressure on his right front paw. At first we thought it was just a sprain as there was no other obvious damage and it wasn't swollen. His dog walker kept him on the lead and gave him short walks but it wasn't getting any better.

Last night he was obviously in quite a lot of pain and didn't want to move much. Didn't even ask for his dinner but managed to eat when I gave it to him. This morning he was hardly moving at all and didn't get up when I made my peanut butter toast.

I took him up to the vet this morning who said there was no infection but he suspected he might have broken his toe. He couldn't do an x-ray today but said to see how he gets on over the weekend with pain killers. He's definitely happier this evening although reluctant to go out.

    Oh poor boy!

I've had a broken toe and it was incredibly painful. I've also broken a leg and ribs, and the toe was worse than the other two put together. My sympathies, Homer. Hope you heal up fast.

    Ouch! Hope it heals quickly.

Lucan broke a toe a few years back, the outside one on his left front leg, luckily for him it healed well with just painkillers and walks on soft grass. Took a few weeks before he was fully weight bearing on it though.

Poor Homer. Hoping the painkillers make him feel better and that the toe starts to improve over the weekend

OUCH! Poor Homer, glad he is more comfy :)...wonder how he did it, and how common are broken toes in dogs?

The pain killers are helping, he is much happier but still limping quite significantly. Poor thing is not very good at limping, and is finding it very difficult to pee standing on two legs. However his paw hasn't stopped him rushing outside to chase away cats or to the front door to collect the post, then remembers his foot is sore and comes limping back.

The vet wasn't sure it's actually broken because he didn't Yelp when he pressed on it. He was being very brave. But considering it nearly a week and he's still in pain (somewhat lessend by the painkillers) I think it must be broken.
Full rest this weekend, I'm not going to take him out unless he really wants to. A pity because it is such a glorious day for a good long walk and a swim.

He went up some metal steps and on the way down got his claw stuck in a hole and his paw got a bit twisted. He had a small cut on his pad near his toe but ran around a park later that afternoon but by the evening he was limping and limping much more the next day.

Good to hear that the painkillers are helping Homer feel more comfortable, the only problem as Homer has found is that the foot still hurts if you do too much.

Perhaps a lazy day in the garden playing find the treat, paddling pool perhaps as well. I'm sure enjoys helping you with the gardening :)

The back door is wide open so he can go out when he feels like it. Last night he woke me up to go outside and did the longest pee ever, it went on, and on, and on, and on and on and on like Niagra falls! Shows how much he pees when out and about.

Poor Homer, I really hope he starts to feel better very soon. Last year I thought Charlie had broken his toe but when the vet examined him it was a torn tendon so now his toe sticks straight out. Take it easy for a few days Homer. xx

After three days of complete house rest I took him out for a short 10 minute walk along the river this evening. Limping but at least keen to get out and about. Yesterday I picked up his lead a few times and he just looked at me as if to say "No way am I going out" So there is some progress but to my mind still due to the pain killers rather than his paw getting better.
I'd still like x-Ray's but will ring the vet tomorrow (Monday) morning.

Hubby says HIS toe has been hurting all week too!! But he's not been limping so not getting sympathy.

Do we really believe that? A sore toe and no complaints? I'd have my OH booked in to the vets with the dog by now :chuckle::chuckle:
