I just remembered to turn the page to April on our Labrador calendar. The quote for the month is 'When a dog enters your life it changes everything'. Can anyone deny that? Not me! But all in such a good way....well mostly. Poor Maxx has been sick again and I'm sure its the ongoing heat and lack of rain. Sydney is now in 'serious to severe rainfall deficiency' according to the weather bureau. Maxx has probably only seen rain half a dozen times in his short life. Anyway he is better today and sitting on my feet (that's on, not at) looking up at me and having a small whine as if to say 'can't we go to the park now? I'm better'....but the vet said no big walks or excitement for a few more days.
Nope, can't deny that. Good that Max is better. If only we could have just some of your warmth in the UK -- it's another rain sodden weekend here
I hope the little chap is better soon. Leicestershire had had the most rainfall since 1947 this winter and we are mutating into fish. But it's ok we don't mind it will he horribly hot soon. I'm glad I don't live were you do xx
I shouldn't complain, I saw on the news that parts of America are still suffering blisteringly cold winter conditions and people are truly suffering. My only complaint is my little fur-child is uncomfortable and I am a bit hot and our vege and herb gardens are pretty much dried up. I'm 'of an age' now where I don't deal with the heat and Maxx of course has a fur coat to contend with!
The weather in Australia is just becoming more and more extreme, it's frightening. Humans are well and truly screwing with the climate. We've had an amazing autumn so far - warmer than normal, but still cooler temps. We're getting the proverbial slap to the face this coming week, though - southerly blast hitting, complete with howling wind and rain. And my blimming clothes dryer has just stopped working
This will be cold, right? Always sounds so strange --- when I visited Australia in my youth it was so odd to be in a blisteringly hot wind .. and it was a northerly !
Yep, the weather is crazy. It's April and we had a day in the 30s! I cooked dinner on the BBQ in shorts and a singlet. In April. It's ridiculous.
Yes, it still in the negatives here and I got my huge winter parka back out. We can’t believe how unseasonably cold it is! I hope Spring shows up soon!!
I lived in Wellington for about 18 months Sophie and boy do I remember those southerlies! But well worth it as it is the nicest place to live - very friendly and social. I met hubby there and 'imported' him to Sydney....thinking he would become a true blue Oz boy. Ha. He is still 100% Kiwi, even after 29 years.
Yep, ridiculous. Our pool is solar heated so we do still sometimes swim in April, but normally we would be getting out and feeling like we were in Antarctica! Not now, it's just as warm in as out. Poor Maxx is chin down on the tiles again, it is 32.4 degrees and heading for 34. Crazy. Maxx on the tiles by Robyn Armstrong, on Flickr
I'm surprised that your OH hasn't dragged you back over the ditch to move here permanently - those temperatures must drive you mad.
We have thought about it over the years but I work in banking IT so can only get decent work in the Financial capitals - which for NZ is Wellington - and as much as I love the city I couldn't face another winter there. As much as I am not enjoying the heat this year, that single winter I spent there was just too cold! Hard to please aren't I?
At least you have desalination plants ready to be fired up in Sydney. They spent so much money on them only to have the dams fill up the following year. I don’t think Labs are suited to these hot climates, and definitely not humid. Poor Snowie is also suffering from the heat. I feel so bad for him - he should be living in Canada or the UK! We have a swimming pool just for him!! But the water level is dropping by the day (we can’t fill it). Desperately hoping for tons of rain. Funnily enough when it did rain last week, he didn’t know what to do with the water dripping in his eyes while on our walk! One of my coldest winters was also in Wellington!
I think it’s been really cold in the UK for longer this year. I’m still putting my heating on now. Today was sunny and about 15degrees which made a nice change. Then it’s back to the rain. Everywhere is still flooded from the full week of rain last week Please say this means we might just get a half decent summer!
We recorded a high for this year on our weather station, of 12.5 C - really wishing the warmer weather would hurry up. I'm not asking for much, 15 max would do. I need the garden to dry out so I can brush the mud off the path.
It just feels like a long, grey, wet winter that won't go away. I don't think it's been excessively or consistently cold here in the Midlands, though we've certainly had more snow and cold snaps than usual. But blue sky and sunshine, even in freezing weather has been almost non existent. Swept the decking last weekend and it's rotting in one corner Bet somewhere has a hosepipe ban by August
Poor Canadian labs have cold feet in the winter and panting from the hot humid summer weather! Finally get used to one season and it changes again! Quinn loves muddy Spring and the cooler fall temperatures though!
I have no idea what you're talking about... Note the wind gusts. After 5 months of unseasonable warmth this is a shock to the system!
Oh No! Stay warm and get those winter coats out. I remember sometimes coming home from work to find my washing distributed around the neighbourhood. Or me getting blown back up Willis street (and you would NOT call me petite)....good luck!
