Hi, I am new here I really need to just ask a question, my daughter has a lab that came with her partner, the dog has got serious ear problems they have been treating it with the usual drops ect, however the vet has said he could do an op on this poor guys ears, my daughter can not afford this but I can I was wondering if any of you have had this problem and if your dog had the op did it help and what was the cost, thanks for reading looking forward to get a response
Hello , and welcome to the forum . I`m sorry to hear about the ear issues , and sorry that I haven't had any personal experience of the operation . If you are in the UK , there are a couple of charities that can help with costs , PDSA and the Blue Cross , the latter only if you live near to one of their hospitals . Labradors often have ear problems due to their ear flaps covering the entrance to the ear and not allowing a flow of air , making the area moist and warm , ideal for bacteria to grow . I really hope there is some help available for your daughter .
I know someone whose Lab had his ear canal removed. He was left deaf in that ear but he was no longer in pain, scratching at it, oozing infection. It was a success. Is that what is contemplated for your daughter's Lab? Yes, it was expensive.
Hi guys, thank you, I am aware of the ear problems, I have a chocolate lab called Ted, he lives with our German Shepherd Millie, I will be asking my daughter to speak with Chris our vet to get a price, it breaks my heart to see popcorn ( that's his name bless him) in pain there is nothing worse that ear pain someone may come along that has already done this op with their dog
The op is usually very effective, but I can understand the worry about the cost of the op. Maybe the vet would let you pay in weekly/monthly instalments if you asked them first?
