Hello all, We have a lab in our home. Recently we purchased a carpet cleaner. Before using it, I would like to know whether they are safe or not?? I happened to read an article which said that carpet cleaners are not safe for pets. How do you all clean your carpets when pets are nearby?? Are all cleaners toxic?? How can I know whether my carpet cleaner is toxic or not?? Any suggestions??
Hi Concetta, I'm assuming you mean a chemical cleaner ? Does it say anything on the label? Anecdotally I don't use any chemical on my carpet purely because my Mum told me not to as one brand in particular caused itching in dogs. I only have rugs though ,I'm mostly tiled floors and the rugs don't visibly appear mucky ( heavens knows what they would show up though under close examination !!!!!) Whilst I was away last week my dog sitter 'sponged' one of my rugs down with a dilute mix of fabric softener and water, the same softener I add to his bedding wash and all, has been ok. It might cause itching in a mire sensitive dog though x
Simple Solution is pet safe and does the trick for cleaning up wees. I wouldn't use carpet cleaner or febreeze or any of the carpet powders, too much chemical near dog fur imo.
For carpets and rungs you could consider a steamer to clean. We are ordering this one, after an accident on a new rug, and also to deep clean our tiled floors. Would rather just use steam than chemicals. For minor accidents we use something like Simple solution. Certainly never, ever Febreeze. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Karcher-All-One-Steam-Cleaner/dp/B00T1T4SCW
But now cancelled because the answers on Amazon say it doesn't clean carpets! There is a different model for carpets...
I had a basic steam mop - one of the £20 type - and used it on my carpets. Not convinced it did a lot. I'm sure the Karcher type do a better job (presumably the "carpet" ones ), design wise look possibly more efficient, but as you can't use them on laminate flooring, it's not been used at all since I had my kitchen and sunroom re-floored.
Huh. Maybe I'll just hire a carpet cleaner from B&Q - I can't see me using it a lot. But would feel a bit better if the bedroom carpet got a clean!
Ahh I am not quite sure exactly which one OH is ordering. Think it was between a Polti and Karcher. Mainly to get tiles really deep cleaned. Also something for the occasional accident on the rugs. I will check later
Ive got a steam cleaner and works brilliant on tiles/Lino, but not on carpets......that's my next task!
Why oh why do you all do this?....I want a steam cleaner now! I'll order the one you cancelled Julie!
I have the VAX steam cleaner - it's great for tiles, and has a foot plate thing for carpets, but I've never tried it. Also have a VAX carpet cleaner (the big orange cylinder) ..which is average. I once borrowed a VAX upright carpet cleaner which I THINK was a little better.
This is one @Bensons-dad is considering. It does do carpets, plus it's 4.5bar (what ever that means!!) Polti Vaporetto Eco Pro 3.0 Steam Cleaner, 4.5 Bar
I'd suggest you all first hire a steam cleaner and try it before you buy it! I hired a carpet cleaner, had this glorious idea I'd clean the house top to bottom incl all furniture upholstery over the weekend. Cost to hire was equivalent to having a professional do just one room. Oh boy!! Damn hard work! And the equipment was so heavy esp when filled with water. And I broke some tiles in the shower while emptying the dirty water. Carpets and upholstery came out clean. But next time I'm getting in the professionals. And using Simple Solution for the odd occasions.
Carpets what are carpets! All wooden floor boards throughout in our house which are so much easier to clean. Just rugs which are easy to do by hand x
