Why do owners justify their dogs going for my very friendly and playful black Labrador just because he has not been castrated?

    Re: Castration

    Hello! Welcome to the forum!

    My boy isn't castrated either.

I understand that intact male dogs smell more threatening to other dogs (both intact and neutered) than neutured dogs. I don't know whether it really is the case that neutered dogs seem more upset by this than intact dogs. I meet many more neutured dogs than intact dogs, of course, but do meet a fair few intact dogs and so far haven't had any problems with them (not so all castrated dogs, that could be about numbers though, but I doubt that is the full explanation).

Well, some people believe it is irresponsible to keep a dog intact if you are not going to breed, and yes, some people can be very rude about it. I find this very odd. I don't know how they expect the doggie race to continue without some intact male dogs around! And I think it's my business whether and why I have an intact dog.

I know exactly how you feel, it's extremely frustrating and you and your boy have our sympathy :)

Because they don't understand that in fact it is their responsibility to train their dog and to monitor and manage its behaviour. It's easier and less time consuming to blame your dog instead.

Sorry that an annoying issue has brought you to the forum. But welcome, and please stick around :)

Hi all thank you for making me feel welcome. Our boy is “Jasper” he will be two at the end of this month, we have had him from 8 weeks old. He is our first dog and we could not have asked for a friendlier loving animal. He loves his walks meeting people and playing with other dogs. We have two Rabbits at home and he is so gentle with them. He has been trained to come on the command of a whistle and loves to please, doing all the little commands that he learnt at puppy classes. We all love him so much and he is a big part of our family now. I am always posting photos of Jasper on the Face Book page, not quite sure how to do it on here :)

To post photos, you need to open a free account with something like Flickr or Photobucket.
Take a look at this thread in the Technical & Help section - it might help.
We love photos so will hound you until you have success ;D

Big hi from me and Lola (almost 25 week Choccie)

Because some people just don't want to accept responsibility for their dogs actions. My puppy got attacked by a dog and the other owner told me it is because Lola was on a lead  but I found out later on that this wasn't the first time it had happened and it actually happened again not long after in the same spot.
