I'm debating using CBD oil as pain relief for my 13 year old lab who suffers from arthritis. After researching I've discovered the importance of purity levels in the hemp oil. Has anyone had any experience using cannabis products?
I hope you are referring to in our animals? I know a chap who use it via an eCigarette inhalator. He has quite severe chronic pain with a big dollop of anxiety and "a-copia". For a week it was the best thing since sliced bread. Then back to being as bad as usual.
You have to be careful which CBD oil you are buying. There is indeed a difference. We have over the counter CBD oil without THC. THC is important for pain relief, but only available for humans with a receipt from pain management or GP....This is for us humans. Never heard about it for our dogs. I think you better ask your vet about this!!
Thank you for the input. I'm trying to use more holistic products instead of turning to pharmaceuticals too quickly. My research is showing some amazing results. But of course the tincture can be expensive when the CBD levels are high and the THC has been extracted to nothing. I'm still researching, and am open to any personal experiences...on animals that is!!! Hahahaha. Thank you again.
The issue is, with products like this which are "herbal", and that includes things like cod liver oil and Echinacea for instance, they aren't regulated in any way. Properly prescribed drugs have a wealth of regulation, testing, trials of efficacy and adverse event recording in the background. With a caveat that some herbal medications are on the borderline and might be prescribed, and how vets operate on this is not known to me. The point is, they vary in quality, and may contain other unknown substances that may be harmful. We don't know. I would advise much caution.
I know three people using canabis oil with great results - one for insomnia, one for Crohn’s Disease, and one for neurological inflammation. I’m thinking about using it for myself for insomnia but afraid of possible side effect of paranoia - which all three people say hasn’t happened to them. I don’t know anyone personally with dogs using it, but have read about it on fb.
There are a number of states here in America that produce and sell CBD for animals with really positive results. Of course, there are ranges of quality and prices. So I thought I'd put it out there on the forum. I would never give my dog anything without thoroughly researching and weighing the options.
I also wonder how ethical it is to experiment on a dog that's got no way to give consent. But that's just me.

I have used CBD oil for my elderly dog for achy joints and pain, it seemed to help considerably. If you are going to try CBD I would use Vitality CBD oil rather than a treat since the concentration is likely higher.
I tried CBD for shoulder pain after I did a partial rotator cuff tear. I was hoping it would help me sleep. I could not see any affect from just CBD, but the CBD-THC combo did work for me. It was a liquid that I could spray under my tongue. I used it at night for several months until my shoulder go better. I don't think there is a down side to trying it for sore joints in a dog. It seems pretty benign.
I tried some cbd in my dog and it.caused a swollen esophagus. Laser therapy has worked wonders though.
There are CBD products made for dogs. However, it's important to choose the best ones to keep your furry safe and healthy.
