Hello everyone. Not been on much past few days. There seems sooo much to catch up on on the forums! Just a quick update. Charlies turn for the bucket head now! She had her spaying operation yesterday, bless her. She cried in her sleep most of yesterday, and last night. But has woken up fine this morning. It's a real chore to keep her and Harry apart from playing/fighting. The bucket stays on for 10 days. Rather suits her teamed with a red collar!

    Hi tartanmouse

    Pictures so cute.

It might be different with a spaying but with my old lab if he had the bucket after the first few days I used to let him off wearing it if I was with him and could keep my eye on him no licking etc.

I can imagine how difficult it must be to keep the two of them calm all the time. It would be bordering on impossible with mine.

Ten days will fly by .

    Jen :D

Gosh TM, how old is she? She looks such a baby! (Not a criticism, just interested, as here in Germany most people dont spay until after the first season).

She'll be 6 months on the 19th Sep. Our vet advised us to have her done before the 1st season, as the chance of mammory (sp?) cancers reduces to 0.06%. If you spay after the 1st season the chance rises to 6% or something around that. So it was worth it. But she's tiny anyway being half cocker too. She looks like patchwork on her belly bless her, where she's been shaved! And a little patch from her leg too.

We're having to keep them seperate, obviously. As now Harry has recovered from his little operation he's raring to go!

Charlie is crying more than I remember Harry or Alfie doing. Not in pain, it's not that sort of cry. I'm not even sure she knows she's making the noise to be honest. Sounds like singing. And she is NOT getting on with the bucket. OH is off work til Tuesday, so we're taking turns not leaving her alone, so as Jen suggested, someone can see her all the time, so the bucket has been off a while today.

I can hear her now in the kitchen with her Dad, singing/crying away, but I've just peeked round the corner and she's fast asleep. Poor thing. It's this stge where I feel so bad for putting them through these things. For me, I know it's the right thing to do, but oh if you could hear her, and see the scar. So sad. :(

The labrador bitch across the road had a sort of body vest that she wore after she was spayed. I'd never seen one before, but it looked a lot more practical than the dratted cone!

Poor Charlie. When Bess was done I put her in an old pair of shorts which she was more amenable to having on than the horrid collar. Luckily after a couple of days she didn't try to lick the scar and seemed back to her normal self. The biggest problem was not being able to let her off the lead outside and to stop her running around inside. I hope Charlie makes a good recovery.

A friend of mine with a small hairy dog (showing my ignorance here) has recently had a litter - well at least 6 months ago. Her mum has one of the boys, and they both went in to be "done" at the same vets on the same day. She posted a picture of the girl, the mum, wearing an old vest of her grand-daughters, and the wee boy, in a pair of her little pants!
It was quite cute. I gather they both made the most of it ;D

Aww...poor thing. I'm in awe of all of you who can do cone management - as most of you know I almost had a breakdown during Simba's Cone Episode.

Wouldn't wish that on anyone - hopefully we experienced all the bad stuff so you all don't have to!!

Wishing her all the best and that the 10 days fly by with not too much stress for you!

Poor lamb. She is a very pretty dog isn't she.

When Lady was spayed we didn't have the cone of shame. The first night she looked a wreck. The next day she was a nightmare again and stopping her jumping was really hard. Then she ate a tennis ball (£250 in vet bills) so we knew she was back to normal.

The last time we had a bitch spayed, we didnt do the collar either, she was fine, just hoping Miss Millie wont require one either , she is anxious enough without adding that to it ::)

Maybe children's pants would work for Millie, you could start getting her used to them in advance? Just in case she tries to get at herself.

Lilly wasn't at all interested in her wound - the odd lick, but nothing of note - no cone needed for us.
    Be positive ;)

    Street cred...what's that?
    7.30 this morning......
ME: Hurry up there Alfie, I've got dog sh*t up me finger nail again. Come on.
LOVELY NEIGHBOUR OVER THE FENCE: Morning love, one of those days eh.

I was mortified. She's the lovliest, most sophisticated, gentle lady on this earth. And she hears me saying that.

We've abandoned the collar for Charlie. She just wasn't getting on with it. Someone is with her the whole time, so there's no chance of her damaging the stitches or anything. It's heart breaking having her and Harry on opposite sides of the kitchen gate. They're kissing each other and everything, but as soon as I let them together, they're flying about the place, and it's just a no no this early on. They don't understand at all, I feel so horrible. :-\

But I'm surprised she's not bothered by the wound. If anything she's paying attention to the little patch of bare skin on her leg from the needle.

So you never know Kate, Millie could be fine. Hopefully she will be.
