Charlie is not a sensitive tummy dog, and there has always been an obvious reason for him vomiting (eg chewing up and swallowing a stick when he was younger, scoffing a whole boiled egg without chewing and so on). He was stick after breakfast yesterday, and the same today. Completely fine otherwise. Normal poo, full of beans. Nothing unusual sicked up, just his breakfast. Hmmm... Bit odd. The only thing that's changed is he used to have his joint supplements in a chewable tablet, but the ones I've just opened are in a capsule form. But he's had capsules before and been fine.
Re: Charlie being sick Is it just the once in the morning Julie ? I wouldnt worry too much if he is his usual bouncy self , is his appetite as usual ?
Re: Charlie being sick Sorry to hear he's been poorly.....i haven't got anything to suggest....does the time frame fit in with being related to the capsule administration? X
Re: Charlie being sick If its just in a morning after his joint supplement it could be that but like you said he's had capsules before. ??? Thats the only difference though so maybe? Scott had that strange bug a while a go probably from something gross he'd eaten. He'd be sick once in the afternoon usually after a big drink. He also had a very gurgling tummy. Hope it sorts itself soon as long as charlie is his usual self that's the main thing.
Re: Charlie being sick Sorry that he seems to be a bit dodgy in the tummy department. Maybe wait and see how he goes? If his behaviour is otherwise normal I wouldn't be too worried at this point.
Re: Charlie being sick Yes, it's just a bit odd - no general signs of an upset tummy, not vomiting any other time etc. Well, if it happens again I'll pop him down to the vet to check. He's been on the joint supplements for 9 weeks now, but I wonder if they become intolerant of them over time or something like that.
Re: Charlie being sick I don't know about dogs becoming intolerant to their supplements over time but I know that it can take several weeks for them to build up to a therapeutic level which is why you don't see results from using them straight away. Not sure if it could be something to do with this? If he's only vomited the once I wouldn't be too concerned.
Re: Charlie being sick Sorry to hear this, Julie, I hope he's okay. Hard to know sometimes what is going on with them, they keep us guessing for sure!!
Re: Charlie being sick Charlie finished his "loading dose" of supplements 3 weeks ago - you are quite right, Lauren, that it takes a while to build up the dosage (6 weeks for the type Charlie is on) but he's been on a maintenance dose for 3 weeks now. The loading dose is huge, so I guess it's a bit daft of me to think it's the supplements - if he was going to be sick with them, it surely would have happened during the loading dose period. Oh, well. See how he does tomorrow. OH was in charge today, said he was quiet and a bit sleepy but perked up after rice and sardines for lunch. (OH thought Charlie would prefer rice and sardines to rice and chicken. : )
Re: Charlie being sick I always open the capsule and sprinkle the powder on Drift's food. Maybe the capsule just irritates his stomach?
Re: Charlie being sick Thanks for asking. He is fine, today. I don't know what caused him to be sick yesterday and the day before but today I made sure he just took things a bit more slowly. So he didn't get his breakfast before his walk, and although I allowed him to tank his water bowl when he got back (as usual) I made him wait for more food, and then fed him in kongs (rather than allowing him to scoff his food from a bowl - which unusually I had done yesterday as I forgot to do the kongs). And he has been fine.
Re: Charlie being sick Sick again! Twice. OH didn't do the poo sample on Friday. : if you want something doing... Off to the vet at noon - I called, and they say it's best they see him.
