Charlie has been in the wars again. He went out for a wee yesterday morning and came in with a large chunk of his Carpal Pad hanging off and my word did it bleed. Called the vet who told us to bring him straight in and she kept him for surgery He was such a good boy letting the vet examine what must have been a painful wound and of course felt he should give the vet a good old face wash We collected a very wobbly boy later on in the day and the vet who owns the practise came to see me and told me what a lovely, lovely dog he is. She said he was a little anxious when we had gone and he needed a further examination but he was so good. I explained a little about him and how I had clicker trained him to allow me/vets to examine his ears, paws, clean his teeth and clip his nails etc. and she said that was wonderful and she could tell he had been trained well and it showed, she wished more owners took the time to do these things as it would make her job a lot easier, I felt really proud of Charlie. He pretty much slept the evening away only getting up to greet everyone as they arrived home. He is back to his old self this morning shuving a squeaky toy in Hattie's face at 7 am this morning to play So relieved he is OK. Back tomorrow for a check up. The vet hopes it will heal well but pads are tricky so we will just have to wait and see. Fingers crossed. Thanks. xxxx
Poor Charlie, that sounds painful! You're right to feel proud - of Charlie and yourself - at the vet's comments. Sending lots of healing vibes
So sorry to read about Charlie; unfortunately pads do take a long time to heal, but they usually do. I had a German Shorthaired Pointer and she managed to cut all four pads over the years, all healed up, so I am hoping for the same for Charlie. x
Good luck tomorrow hope all is as it should be when the vet checks. Doesn't sound like the ordeal has phased charlie giving Hattie her early morning call. He was a very well behaved lovely dog for the vet that's for sure. Got my fingers crossed he's healed as quickly as possible.
My sympathies.....done the carpal pad abraision bit but this sounds considerably worse. Charlie must have been very brave. I hope he milks the sympathy for extra treats and makes a rapid recovery xx
Aww poor boy! Foot injuries are no fun, for him or for you. The whole "keeping it clean and dry" thing is not easy! Here's hoping for a quick and uneventful recovery!
