Hi everyone and thank you so much for your lovely kind messages we really appreciate it Just got back from the vets and the news is good, no X-Rays needed, the vet thinks either he has stubbed his toe and badly bruised it or it is infected as it did have a minor cut on the pad and his paw was hot and yesterday but he wouldn't let her take his temperature, and who can blame him He is on a 5 day course of anti biotics and anti inflammatories and low round the park exercise until the course is finished so not bad at all. He was so funny, he went into the practise no problem and had so much fuss from the lovely nurse who has always been a big fan of Charlie's, the vet called his name and he grounded himself and refused to go into ther consultation room, so bless her she took him outside into the cark park to examine his foot, she has 3 abused rescue dogs herself so knows not to stress him out, where I might add there sitting outside is the vet stray CAT who Charlie just looked at and it proved to be a great distraction to manipulating his toe ;D Do you think he will remember his experience going to the vets as it could prove to be an issue next time he needs to go? He is now sunning himself in the yard having had a very late breakfast, so all is good in Charlie's world Thank you all again xxx
Re: Charlie is Limping Badly the results Glad it's good news Helen. Anti B's will kick in within a day. Poor old Charlie. Lots of hugs and wags of tail to him.
Re: Charlie is Limping Badly the results Good news Helen. It sounds like the vet's was a positive experience, so hopefully he will remember that next time! Sounds like you have a great vet!!!
Re: Charlie is Limping Badly the results Good news, Helen. Sorry meant to post good luck on your other thread but .... Make a big fuss of him!
Re: Charlie is Limping Badly the results Oh that's good it doesn't sound like anything serious! They do remember experiences like that, but the fact that he had a positive experience this time will be good for next time. Maybe if you can pop him in at a quiet time and get the receptionists to give him a couple treats, if you ask nicely they might let you take him into an empty consult room for some positive association.
Re: Charlie is Limping Badly the results So glad Charlie has nothing serious wrong and will be back to normal in no time. ;D This sunny weather will do his toe the world of good. Let the brave soldier rest in the sun so that toe can mend.
Re: Charlie is Limping Badly the results Phew! Glad to hear this, Helen! As far as the vet experience, you honestly couldn't have had much worse of an experience than when Simba went in for his neuter as well as his post-op exam....but when I took him in for his annual exam 5 months later he was happy as a clam (I did do some work with him on being examined, etc in the meantime). So, I wouldn't worry too much. I think it certainly can have an effect but a lot depends on the dog's temperament, too. *for newbies reading this! Simba is a "second-hand" dog to us, we got him when he was around a year old, he went in for the neuter when we had him about 3 weeks. I didn't actually realize the extent of his issues with handling, etc, at the time....in hindsight I would have done things a lot differently... :-\
Re: Charlie is Limping Badly the results I am so glad it's nothing serious Helen what a relief for you and your family x It sounds like your vet is very conscientious which is positive for Charlie I'm sure next time he will remember this time being so positive
Re: Charlie is Limping Badly the results Thanks everyone, so relieved it wasn't a break and Charlie is OK enjoying being spoilt and enjoying the sunshine I must say he is remarkably calm for a young boy that hasn't been walked for 2 days, which makes a change : Again my thanks to you all for your lovely messages xx Lauren, that's an excellent idea and I am sure he would love the treats and hugs too x
Re: Charlie is Limping Badly the results Phew Helen! Glad rest will sort it and that the rest aspect is being accepted very easily by him ,hope you are all enjoying some sun and outside time x
Re: Charlie is Limping Badly the results
Hi Helen, A few days on,how is he seeming? X
Hi Angela, thanks for asking. Charlie is not limping any more so the medication is working thank goodness and he is remarkably calm with his 30 minutes per day walk. He can have normal walks at the weekend, but to be honest it's so hot here I think that's why it's not bothering him so much. xx
Re: Charlie is Limping Badly the results Great to hear a good news update about Charlie ,glad he's so much better x
