Obviously if I'm walking where bikes are allowed I keep Molly on the lead, but since the good weather there seem to be bikes everywhere locally, i.e. on footpaths through the forest, not just cycle trails. When Molly is on lead she rarely reacts to bikes at all - she never barks and hardly ever lunges. Off lead she gives chase barking madly. If I see a bike coming I can put her on the lead, but they seem to appear out of thin air - and a few cyclists have even whooped and encouraged her. I feel I've done everything I can on-lead - we walk along the seafront prom and she's brilliant, walking on a loose lead and ignoring cyclists, buggies, scooters etc. A couple of really nice cyclists have stopped and tried to be friendly with Molly but she continued to leap around barking until she was put on lead. She doesn't jump up and it's excitement rather than aggression - her tail is wagging furiously. I don't own a bike or know anyone who does. I could hire one at the forest, but at £12 for the shortest time available I can't afford to do it too often. I guess I'd need someone with me too to ride the bike while I deal with Molly. Any suggestions please?
Re: Chasing bikes Hi Joy. We seem to be seeing lots more cyclists too at the minute. I have been teaching Harley to stay over to my right when we spot a cyclist. I point to my right, say this side and throw her ball to my right. She used to try and follow/greet the cyclists but I asked them not to stop unless they get off their bikes as she had some wanting to say hi, and others getting funny about it. It worked this side and ball also works brilliantly
Re: Chasing bikes I think Harley must be better behaved / trained than Molly! The problems arise when they appear suddenly, at speed, and Molly just takes off after them, deaf to any of my calls.
