After a long day yesterday we finally made it home. I have a couple of pics to show if I can make it work. I have to say we've been excellent at the wees etc outside but not at all excellent about sleeping in the crate and I am knackered. Still, she did sleep for about 5 hours in the car. Crate training today and I'm afraid it will be just leaving her tonight, as I need some sleep! Going over to Deb's thread in a minute to join her club. She's fast asleep now! Being a typical puppy, chewing everything except my kong chews!

    Maybe pics won't work ???

Will try again later when my brain is awake, if these didn't turn out.

Oh she looks so lovely .....what a long trip you had getting her back, but she's worth it!you will have been more tired yesterday because of the travelling .....it can be knackering when they are so young but the first couple of days are full on.
Try her with some short periods away from you today in her crate and see how she goes, everything is very strange to her,if only she knew all the preparations that have gone into her arrival :D shes's the luckiest puppy, ever! X
Looks like the other furry member of the family is quite content with her arrival too x

Ahhh I remember those first few days of falling asleep on your legs/lap, I kinda miss it.

Chepi looks so cute, I don't really have any tips on the crate as mine took to it immediately the first night but I did sometimes pick her & put her in there when she fell asleep just to get her more used to it.

I also remember the tiredness, partly excitement, travel but I found first week I was so hyper vigilant about keeping an eye on her that it made the tiredness worse but then one day you just suddenly relax & that definitely helps the exhaustion. Getting friends/family round also helps with the exhaustion as Chepi will be more tired from the mental stimulation & they can watch her while you nap. ;)

Good luck with the first full day & hope you get plenty of naps.

Ahh she's gorgeous. The cat doesn't seem to pleased about her borrowing that bowl in the second picture though! :)

She is utterly gorgeous! :) :)

I do remember those early weeks and the feeling of utter exhaustion that I really didn't expect, oddly I miss those days now as he is now growing up. Enjoy every minute (and post loads of photos!!!), but expect brain and nerves to be a bit frazzled at times! ;D ::)

    Re: Chepi's Home!

Thanks everyone. The cat and Chepi are getting along fine, mutual washing of their faces. Although Chepi found his tail irresistible so the cat gave a warning swipe that wasn't full on. My other cat won't come in. :'(
I will be doing short periods in the crate. (leaving Chepi on the outside ;D) If I need to leave the room I pop 2 pieces of kibble in her bowl, shut the door and don't look back. She's got one heart wrenching puppy whine that just builds and builds. I started her off asleep in the crate last night then she woke up and kept crying for half an hour. I should have left her grr, annoyed at myself because I am having to regain a little distance today. Some progress, she's sleeping on her vetbed about 10 feet away, woke up and saw that I was in the room and put her head down again. Good-oh! The cat keeps waking her up coming through the cat flap! Well, something else to get used to.
My son has a beard and glasses, so that's 2 off the list and we have a railway line close by and she's already used to that AND someone was letting off fireworks when we were out for a midnight wee.
The only one of the toys I bought for her that she's really enjoyed have been the Nylabone teething rings. Not interested in cardboard boxes but loves little twigs in the garden.
OK, time for a nap ::)

Glad you've got your girl home OK.

I nipped the ends off my cat's claws when I brought my last puppy home. It didn't do the cat any harm and it did mean that a swipe across a puppy's face couldn't cause damage to little protuberant eyes.

She looks a dear little pup. Think what a terrible upheaval it must be for a puppy, it is suddenly taken away from everything known, siblings, mother, home, it is no wonder they cry at night when find themselves all alone :'( Of course they adjust and most will have the happiest of lives ahead, but I always feel for them in the beginning.

Your first few days will be exhausting, but you will forget ;D ;D

She looks lovely. That was us 4 weeks ago - sleeping anywhere but the crate. After a month of first carrying, then coaxing, cajoling and sometimes treating, Holly finally put herself to bed in the crate for the first time last night and is currently snoozing again in there. Good luck with her.....and sleep for you!

    Steph, that's brilliant!

Rachael, Thanks for doing the photos - I don't know where I go wrong

Have just filled her puppy kong with kibble and put it inside her crate, she got it all out and is now snoozing OUTSIDE of the crate ;D

Of course, this as been the most traumatic thing in her life and rally, she is coping well. She is doing what she needs to do to get her needs met and I can't blame her for that.

She's following me closely around the house and around the garden and occasionally playing for a minute on her own. She nearly turns herself inside out when I return if she's been in the crate as I'm sure you all know too well ;D
Washing machine is on, new noise!
