hi. Quick question. I've just started the clicker heel training - when I'm ready to introduce the verbal element do I continue clicking? Thx.
You can stop clicking as soon as you know your dog understands the position that's being asked for by the cue. I usually wait until I'm certain my dog understands the final cue before I stop clicking. 1. Train using non-verbal cue with clicks. 2. Replace non-verbal cue with verbal cue using new cue -> old cue technique, still clicking. 3. Once old cue is faded and dog is consistently responding to verbal cue (is clicked ten times out of ten), clicker is no longer necessary. 3a. Remember that this understanding depends on context, so we may have to reintroduce clicker in different environments.
