I spent last weekend at the CLA game fair with the Working Clumber Spaniel Society and of course my Clumber Ziggy. We had 15 dogs with us for the three day event including 2 puppies of 11 weeks of age. The dogs and handlers did two demos each day showing off their gundog training and also took part in the daily gundog parades in the main ring together with 35 other breeds of gundogs. The Clumbers were absolutely true to their lovely characters and there wasn't a single grumble in three long days! Here is a little clip I took at the stand in the Sporting Dog Pavilion. Ziggy is the third dog from the left. http://youtu.be/ux7vrXCUMBU
Re: Clumber Spaniels at the CLA bless him with his lovely eye patch looks like they were all getting along very well, how was the temperature?
Re: Clumber Spaniels at the CLA It was very hot. But somehow the dogs coped much better than the humans. There were loads of paddling pools put up for them and standing hose pipes to cool them down. 8)
Re: Clumber Spaniels at the CLA He is lovely,I'm chuckling at the way he looks at you making your noises....as if to say, Mum, you are so embarrassing!'I can see that there wouldn't be a grumble ,what a lovely collection of calm well behaved dogs
Re: Clumber Spaniels at the CLA Barbara, that was one of our trainers making the kissy noises! ;D Up until then they had all been fast asleep despite the whole world and his wife and his dog coming to see them!
Re: Clumber Spaniels at the CLA You know having been a confirmed black lab bitch owner all my life I could be very tempted by one of these working clumbers.....must stop looking at the photos, must stop looking at the photos.....
I'm with you - husband would not be pleased, one dog is more than sufficient for him
Re: Clumber Spaniels at the CLA I honestly don't know why this breed is so rare. You couldn't ask for nicer dogs. Their temperament is wonderful. I am very new to this lovely native breed but I have been well and truly clumbered! Anyone on facebook have a look at some of the fantastic photos from the CLA game fair on the Working Clumber Spaniel Society's page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Working-Clumber-Spaniel-Society/145632285534564?fref=ts
Re: Clumber Spaniels at the CLA
oh have just liked that page - the slippery slope
Oh yes, Barbara, that's how I started!
Re: Clumber Spaniels at the CLA Oh no, OH is not going to like this, I'm already planning another lab bitch to work and possibly take a litter from.....sure I can sneak a little Clumber in somewhere and obviously would have to contribute to the breeding programme. Roll on my purchase of a smallholding....
Re: Clumber Spaniels at the CLA I think a Clumber might stand out a little in your gang but hey go for it and I may have persuaded OH by then and I can have a puppy from you ;D
Re: Clumber Spaniels at the CLA They really are gorgeous-looking dogs. I am staunchly holding my ground as being a one-dog family against great pressure from my daughter (though she hankers for a collie - personally I have a soft spot for spaniels which I can say Heidrun has compounded ;D ) jac
