Ok so I always thought dogs wearing coats was a bit ridiculous...not as nature intended and all that. But I find since I have my own little darling I am behaving in a most irrational manner and worrying that he might get cold and wet and then get poorly! So do I buy him a coat for when the weather is wet and cold or is that being too mumsie and daft?

I take a towel in my car and Riley rarely spends long after a walk or training absolutely soaking. I think coats are good if they might have to sit around while they're wet but if you're heading straight home to a towel off and a warm house I wouldn't worry. Some people have them as it contains the mess aswell as drying the dog off which can be handy and stops that lovely pattern on your walls as they go for the extra shake after they've come inside ::)

I`m with Barbara, have a towel in the car at the ready and yes , I know all about tha extra shake, our hallway wall is witness to it on a regular basis ::)
Sam , being black, has a high viz jacket for evening walks in winter, he hates it with a passion , spending the entire time determined to rid himself of the dastardly thing ;)

I have drying coats/jumpers for all of my dogs which they wear after a long hard day's work when they are wet, muddy and tired. They wear these coats on the car journey home which means they are dry and warm and clean(ish) by the time they go to bed. ;D

I've just recently got Lady a towelling coat that I put on her when she is wet and muddy, and after a tiring working day. She seems to like it and settles down nicely to dry in it. Seems to keep the mud down in the house.

I didn't buy any clothes for Charlie - on the basis that it would be silly. But I am now using the excuse of wet dog after walk to buy stuff. Just bought him a bright yellow towel dressing gown with "Australian Surf Dog" on it in red - mainly so I can take a picture and send it to Obi though... ;D ;D ;D

That is just too lovely... he is completely adorable. You need to stop showing me photos of him!!!

I am thinking of getting one of these for Meg now she is getting on in years (10) to keep her warm on the journey home. But she shares a crate with several other dogs and I wonder if they will chew it? I suspect Rachael will not be able to resist...

A very well meaning friend of mine posted me a coat for Millie for winter saying that if we dodnt want it, to donate it to a dog shelter. It was a very kind gesture but was bright pink with the word Princess in sparkly cristals emblazed accross the back , my husbands reaction was priceless ;D

Brilliant glad others have considered it! Love the photo! I think towling down and a blanket for the way home in the car will suffice then. If I find a particularly cute coat though I may purchase it for Christmas ;)

    Yes, yes, he does!!!

I am of the blanket-and-towel group. But it does get very cold here, and I am thinking of getting an insulated blanket for Pops to sit on if there are long stretches of waiting at training. Some of the other dogs had them (I ended up putting a spare jacket on the ground for her; she loved it…).

There were a couple of 'senior' dogs at the training seminar who were not working, and they wore coats. Here for instance:

I think Ziggy would make a fantastic goalie!! Murffi and Alice are definitely strikers and no one would get past Caddie as a defender! :p ;D

When you go to a spaniel trial the dogs are wrapped up warm in coats until it is their run. These dogs have to come out all guns blazing so it is important to keep them warm to avoid injury.

That's just gorgeous! I'd be so tempted to get 'Retired' or 'Director' embroidered on the back...
