I know chocolate is bad for dogs but it is because of the cocoa powder or other ingredients. My 18 month old loves to share her cereal snack with him. They have cocoa powder on them not chocolate. This might seem a bit daft but need to know.
Disregard. I just found the info I need. Dark chocolate, cocoa powder and bakers chocolate are the worst. They contain the highest concentration of theobromine, which is what causes the toxicity that makes your dog sick or even causes death. Sorry, I should have googled first.
I also thought that cocoa powder wasn't a big deal. In early December Xena wolfed down a plate of Afghans. I didn't even realise that I'd left them on the coffee table (I'd had guests, was saying goodbye, forgot about the biscuits in the hubbub) until I came back inside and thought "huh, I thought I had a whole plate left...oh dear". A quick call to the vet and they said to bring her in asap for a puking - I was expecting them to say "ah no, not a problem with a 23kg dog", so that was a bit of a shock. At least we both know, now.
I am very paranoid around chocolate and Finn. A few weeks ago I took Finn with me to my mother in a nursing home. My mother has severe Alzheimer’s. They had brownies with their tea. Quite a few were on the floor. So I directly went after saying hello to my mother...
