Hi, Me again, bothering everyone! Another stupid question. Am collecting my lovely baby tomorrow and he is on a farm. When I pick him up, have all the things ready but just wanted to ask, should I put a collar on him when I pick him up as I'm scared in case he jumps out of my arms. He 10 weeks so not tiny but still small. Was planning to put him in a box lined with the blanket from his current bed and carry him back to the car. It's a bit of a walk so didn't want him jumping when he realises he will be away from his Mum and Dad and Brothers? He was shaking when I picked him up when I chose him so am hoping he will be too scared to jump. It's going to break my heart taking him away from his family......don't know who'll be crying more, me or him! Thanks again everyone........
Re: Collecting Little Monty Tomorrow I would maybe check with the breeder if they've already put Monty on a collar, I know the breeder I got Kenzi from had a collar on the litter from the time they were about 5-6weeks.
Re: Collecting Little Monty Tomorrow Ah, I remember the walk to the car - I got OH to carry our precious pup in case I tripped (I'm quite a clumsy person!). ;D You've just got to hang onto him though, you can't let a 10 week old puppy jump out of your arms - he is very unlikely to do that anyway, it'll be a lot less scary to cuddle into your shirt - as the drop is far too big for him. Best of luck with it - exciting times ahead!
Re: Collecting Little Monty Tomorrow Its a good idea putting the collar on as it gives you something to grab. Lab puppies are not very heavy so you can just carry them - it might give you more control than a box if Monty wriggles. And dont forget to take a picture of that first, wonderful, moment.
Re: Collecting Little Monty Tomorrow Many breeders put a simple colour coded collar on to identify each pup. You are right though, they are right little squirmers and you need to hold on firmly. Try to get some sleep tonight, you are going to need it. Feels a bit like Christmas when you were a kid doesn't it.
Re: Collecting Little Monty Tomorrow I think it's up to you.......if you feel safer with him having a collar on then do it Look forward to seeing lots of gorgeous photos
Re: Collecting Little Monty Tomorrow I can't stop staring at the pictures.....Hubby thinks I'm crazy, I just love animals. When we got our cats, they weren't kittens but he kept catching me watching them sleeping....still do it now! I'm so very lucky!
Re: Collecting Little Monty Tomorrow Ah so sweet. Happy times ahead. Meg had a collar on at just under 8 weeks with no problems at all
Re: Collecting Little Monty Tomorrow The breeder hasn't got any collars on her pups so not sure if he'll let me put one on but I bought two adjustable and just hope I can put it on him. I'll take it off when we get home it's just to get him to the car safely.
Re: Collecting Little Monty Tomorrow Welcome, what an adorable puppy. I would carry him in your arms to the car, he should be fine as he has already met you and will remember your scent; just hold on tight!
Re: Collecting Little Monty Tomorrow Gorgeous photos, what a sweetie I'd go for carrying too, just keep a firm hold!
Re: Collecting Little Monty Tomorrow Oh he is gorgeous! I remember that lovely feeling of new puppy clinging on!!
