I am concerned about putting vet-bed or anything chewable into my puppy's crate in case she eats it! Particularly at night, when I necessarily sleep SOME of the time, I'd like to think there is nothing she can get into trouble with. However, it seems a little cold to pout her onto a metal base with no softening. What is suitable?

Vet bed is the best - even big chewers rarely chew vet bed.

This is the cheapest supplier I can find, we have lots of it! http://tinyurl.com/ksrdu7h in crates, car crates and we use it for mats as it is so easy to wash and dry.

    :)

Vet bed every time! It is fantastic, and most pups won't manage to chew it. Although there are one or two pups on this forum who have managed to destroy bits....but they are the exception!

Pongo LOVED his vetbed, and still does.

Another vote for vet bed. My two have the odd chew on it, but it stands up amazingly well and we still have the two same bits from when I brought Willow home. They've been washed loads of times and the pups love them. I've just bought some more for the house and am now retiring the two old bits to the car.

Just make sure if you cut it that you defluff the edges where you'll have cut through the pile as well as the base. Probably worth doing that to all the edges where it's been cut by the supplier, too.

Thank you so much for that - I bought a large roll of it, so pleased to hear it might just do the trick.

My two get concerned when I take it up for washing, and follow me, trying to take it out of my hands. They get SO excited when it's dried and ready to be put down again. I think they spend as much time dragging it around as the do actually lying on it ;)

I promise you that is a purchase you will not regret! Expensive stuff but worth every penny.

Vet bed every time. Lasts and lasts and washes and dries really well.

I was looking up Canadian suppliers and they offer it at $900 for a 10 metre roll…. Now I don't suppose I need 10 metres of it… but sheesh!

  what is this stuff??? (And what size do you recommend for a labrador?)

That's a ridiculous price. I'm sure you can get it cheaper?

That's an outrageous price. I know it's not that cheap in the UK but that price is staggering

For a piece 36 by 24 inches, it is about £25 here.

    Another fan here.

I bought a piece 36 inches by 60 inches last April ( from ebay) for £19.00

    I cut it into 3.

I pop a piece on the back seat when Molly is in the car (in a harness of course) it stops her sliding around and brings a bit of home into the car with her..

The only damage it has sustained was when Imleft it upside down in an untidy heap and she munched on the peak. Entirely my fault.

I'm another fan here. I bought 5m roll for £70 when we had puppies - worked great as it's easy to clean, dries quickly & it's hard to chew.

It looks like they mark it up to the extreme since there is only one official "provider" in Canada.

Tara must be odd, as she regularly pulls out her bedding, and goes into her crate and sleeps on the base. When she is shut in the crate, she pushes the bedding up one end, and again lays on the base.

    Re: Crate bedding fro puppy?

No, Tara is not odd.....Cooper (almost 14 months) tore his vet bed apart when I brought him home....the breeder told me NOT to put anything inside the crate...that the pup would sleep happily on the metal bottom but I felt sorry for him and bought the vet bedding (very expensive)....lasted about half an hour, if that, and I never replaced it, didn't put in a towel or a blanket or anything....he loved going in his crate, sleeping in it, napping in it.
And I cannto believe that Tara and Cooper are the only doggies that did not have vet bedding!! Mine now is de-crated most of the time and sleeps on the tile floor!!

My spaniel does exactly the same thing. I leave the vet bed in there as then I figure he at least has the choice :)
He's also a shocking chewer and bed destroyer but the vetbed is fine!
