Given our injured states, Harley and I are getting a bit bored so I thought this morning I would proof some of our old commands and introduce a new one. For whatever reason we never taught give paw so started on that today, but I think a mix of being post op and not allowed long walks, a bag of treats and an injured mum trying not to wince probably gave off bad vibes. The proofing went well and give paw started off ok when she just went loopy, really charging about, snarling and snapping and barking. I sat down on the sofa and turned my back, only saying NO when she nipped at my hands, then after a few minutes she stopped, came and sat nicely in front of me so I said oh good sit, gave treats, she lay down so again oh good down, treats. I asked for her paw and lo and behold, the perfect calm paw in my hand. On a side note, what age do they become adults? I am aware I will probably have a puppy for life
Re: crazy behaviour whilst training You did the right thing , always stop any training if the dog isn't responsive or starts to " mess about " . Its like childrens behaviour , any attention being better than none ! Re the growing up , well how long is a piece of string My last Lab was about three or four years old before she became anything resembling sensible whereas my boy Sam was calmer and has always been a solemn lad , all so different
Re: crazy behaviour whilst training They have a teenage period which in Molly's case lasted from about 7 months to about 12 months. She was explosive and forgot everything I had taught her. I wouldn't describe her a vicious, just sometimes she turned into a total ball of energy and lost it. Luckily it doesn't last that long.
