My 19 month old lab has had a gradual increase in what looks like dandruff, mainly on his tummy. It does not appear to worry him, but is noticeable when I brush him. He does not have baths - brushed weekly and occasional use of Pet Head waterless spray shampoo. He gets wet on walks and jumps in stream, weather permitting. He eats Arden Grange dry dog food, mixed with a tiny amount of wet nature diet as he doesn't eat dry kibble. Should I add cod liver oil or an egg occasionally to his diet to improve coat?

Any fish oil is great for dogs coats , as is he raw egg too :)
Sam likes to take a whole egg outside , carefully roll it around on the grass until he can wait any longer , bashes it with a paw and eats the lot, shell and all :)

Yes, a capsule of fish oil with his food will probably really help. Or you can just pour a teaspoon of oil over his food.

Chip gets a bit flaky sometimes so I'll try this too. Kate I have to ask, how on earth did you discover that Sam would do this with the egg?! I'm astounded!!

We had dandruff here too, now put a teaspoon of cod liver oil over their food every day and no more dandruff. My two love eggs also and Charlie rolls his around with his huge paws as if it were a toy then eats it all, Hattie just devours it all ;D

I just gave him the whole egg, he has a very soft floppy mouth , he carried it outside , I watched from the kitchen as he placed it everso gently on the lawn , then rolled it with his nose right up the garden, then sat in front of it and Bash, one big front paw smashed it to pieces , gobble gone ;D ;D

Thanks for the tips. Is cod liver oil off the shelf ie that humans take! Ok for him?

Hi, I buy mine in Pets at home, 450 ml bottle for £7.00 and it lasts 2 months and I have 2 dogs. Hope this helps. :)

Agree with the fish oil and egg advice. Obi gets two fish oil capsules with his breakfast, a tin of sardines as his dinner and any eggs that the ducks carelessly lay in the garden when they're let out for a wander (usually a couple of eggs a week). Obi carries the eggs round for a bit and then drops them on a concrete paver to smash them for eating.

I buy omega 3 capsules from semichem. Or bodyneeds. High strength ones.
    Inexpensive.
Our ortho vet advised twice the human adult dose, so she gets one with breakfast and one with tea.
Assuming there is no scratching - otherwise might need to think of mites or allergies? And the vet ;)
