Hello We got our new lab puppy 3 weeks ago and she is now 11 weeks old. She is called Zoey. We have her a de worming tablet on Friday and she has had really bad diroehea since. She wont eat her dry food but has started eating rice and chicken today. She seems ok in herself just needs abit more sleep than Normal. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this side effect from a de worming tablet. The vet never warned us off this. Zoey is alittle underweight (6kg) so don't want her not keeping her food in. Thanks so much Helen
If you got the tablet from the vet you should call and check with them. If it was over the counter there may be a higher chance of side effects and you can check with your vet and call the manufacturer. Dogs can be sensitive to any medication just like people, though the common dewormer (at leatl here in the U.S.) doesn't generally cause issues. It could be a sensivity or a coincidence, best to check with your vet!
I agree with @TheresaM , it would be best to consult with your vet and/or the manufacturer. But I have read on here that others have had similar experiences, there's been another thread quite recently.
The best thing is to have a chat with your vet, I am sure it's nothing to worry about Saying that, diarrhoea for a couple of days in very young puppy is something to keep a close eye on. The diarrhoea could simply be a coincidence, or even as a result of the stress of the vet visit, sometimes the treats on the reception counter can be the culprit. If you feel that your pup is a bit light for her age, what was the vets comment on her general health and fitness? 6kg sounds reasonable for an 11-week old puppy, however, this is dependant on the genetics of your pup, eg large show parents vs. small working line bred.
