Gove had indicated that the ban on shock collars may not go ahead as he is worried about the impact on cats and road deaths? Clearly not enough votes in it to interest him

It looks like the shock collar fence systems may stay.

Ive just googled and found this:
    https://www.politicshome.com/news/u...-gove-ditches-ban-electric-shock-collars-pets

Gove - yuk! Steve Redgrave - Blurgh!

let’s hope the use of ecollars as training devices is banned at least.

I have to say I’ve never in real life seen anyone using one. I think I’m lucky (and the local dogs are lucky) in that most people I see seem to take care of their dogs and train them at least in basic behaviours using rewards.

"It has confirmed what academic evidence has shown — just how important they are in protecting pets from road traffic accidents."

What a load of tosh. Supervise your bloody pets. Contain them with physical boundaries and/or tethers if there's a danger and you can't supervise them - although you'd still need to explain to me why you can't. It's not that difficult, people. If you can't do that, you shouldn't have them.

It's just silly i agree they need to ask people who work with animals not people who should stick to rowing. If I needed info on rowing would respect his opinion but he clearly know Bob all about animals. And Gove is know for his unreliability. I hope this thing will run a bit more.

Perhaps the answer is to put one on Mr Gove. Every time he leaves his office he should get electrocuted. We take it off when he presents the legislation to Parliament.

I wish people who complain about e-collars actually tried one. No responsible trainer would ever shock a dog like the person in the video. Used properly it is probably less adverse than a conventional flat collar on a leash. It just needs to be enough that the dog notices it, not that it hurts. All of the instructions say that if the dog vocalizes or reacts sharply it is too much.

I live in pain, every single day I'm in pain I find the idea of inflicting pain even if it's just so it's "noticed" immoral. What right does anyone have to do that to a living creature. I wear a tens machine often so am used to mild electric shocks on a daily basis and unless you choose to do it I wouldn't recommend it.

We all know how stoic our dogs are, that they can be in incredible pain and not vocalise or show any sign of it. Us trying to judge what is painful or not through the way a dog acts is not realistic. Nope, far better to - uh - not actually try and inflict pain on our dogs, don’t you think?
