Hi Lynne, great photos, and lovely to be out and about in the sunshine! I just wonder how you are using the clicker? You wouldn't normally expect a response to the clicker, other than to eat the reward that follows it.

It is really important that you don't use the clicker for anything other than marking a behaviour that you like.

pippa i am using the clicker to reward good behaviour, out side of the house even when i try to reward him for coming back to me, with a click and treat he just ignores it and doesn't even acknowledge the click, in the house though any time i click he comes back to me, any advice would be helpful thank you in advance

    Well done Lynne!
Lilly ignores treats all the time "if there is something more interesting to do" ::)
Someone will come along to help you here I hope (not me - even the crazy dog mum dance doesn't help)

its when he sees other dogs, he runs over and there is no way i can get him back, i have to start running the opposite before he will come back to me, is this normal with puppys :),

Lynne, as I understand it the clicker is not to get the dogs attention its to reward the behaviour you want, so a sit or down etc. I am new to clicker training myself but I am no way ready to move Charlie outside of the house where there are lots more interesting things for Charlie to investigate  Keep training indoors until you are sure you are C&T exactly the behaviour you want from him. Read Pippa's clicker training article as it gives step by step training to success. Also did you charge the clicker? Don't worry it took me a while to get the hang of it too.

There will be many people on here who can advise you on clicker training just incase I have got it wrong - again ;) Helen x

Lilly was the same - I always thought that if I skipped off somewhere in the woods she would be more than happy to go home with the other dog and its family ::)
She is much better now though. Still goes off to see them but comes back pretty quickly when I walk off the other way (it a totally non rude way of course)
Admittedly, Lilly's recall is not the best. She is always looking back checking to see where I am then scurries off as soon as I make eye contact with her. Until of course........there is a deer......or a rabbit.....or hare.

at home he is brilliant, ask him to sit/lie down/wait, i can now even get him to wait from the back garden, i go in the house, wait 5 mins then shout his name, then click and treat, i think i am going wrong when i am out as i am clicking for him to come away from other dogs, , i dont understand what you mean by charge, ? how do i get him back when hes rolling over playing with another dog, :'(, i need to sit down and master this c and t, in the house i am sure that he understands that when i ask him some thing if he does it well i am going to c/t, oh i am a pain, i have a long long way to go :'(

Lynne, did you make sure that Jasper understood the clicker? Charging is when you spend a few days C&T so that Jasper knows that a C means a T. Pippa's article explains it and you will be able to follow the training really easily. Believe me if I can anyone can ;D

No one will think you are leaving Jasper behind, you are doing really well and all dog owners will know what you are doing so don't worry. Helen x
