Hi, Harvey's normally calm nature sometimes gives way to 'Devil dog' syndrome If he bites one of us and we say 'no' or 'ah ah' and then stand-up and face away from him to end the play for a brief period he will often then nip at our trouser legs. Do we simply continue to ignore him or do we then need to be doing something else? Thanks.
Re: Determined (playful) biting Hi there, 'devil dog syndrome' is quite normal for small puppies. You are doing the right thing - just say 'no', or yelp as if in pain, and turn away from him. Sometimes pups can get very over excited and nip and bite with their needle sharp little teeth - this is absolutely normal, and if still in a family group they would be learning with their siblings and mother what hurts and what is acceptable. Don't worry. It'll all be a distant memory in a few weeks! There are lots of posts on here about puppy biting, that should really help you. Take a look through the Puppy Forum. But if you have any more questions or worries, don't hesitate to ask. We've all been there!
Re: Determined (playful) biting Thanks Karen. I had read the articles. I was just a little puzzled as to what to do about the trouser nipping after our response to the initial biting
Re: Determined (playful) biting Good luck UB , I used to say that Lab pups were baby crocodiles in disguise , most of them go through this awful stage , its one that thankfully passes
