    Hi everyone,

We went to the vet with Yalom on Friday as he'd had diarrhoea for 24 hours. He was also not very interested in his food (he is the most food motivated dog I've ever owned usually). She thought it was nothing serious and told us to put him on chicken and rice with some probiotics. We've done that but there's been no improvement. He is seeming very out of character - whining, not interested in training, not keen on food, generally very distractable and unlike himself. We will call the vet tomorrow if there's still no improvement, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or advice as to what it could be/what might help?

Hi @RuthElizabeth - just seen this post so no need to reply to my question on the other post :). Poor Yalom. Definitely pop back to the vet tomorrow and pick up some poo sample pots. I'd ask them to do some tests - get two or three different samples. It might just be that he's eaten something that disagreed with him, but he could have also picked up some parasites somewhere. Is he up to date with his wormers?

Our Luna is the Queen of foraging, picking up parasites and then rocketing them out of her rear end. It's not fun but it's all treatable if you get the vet to confirm what you're dealing with.

In the meantime, lots of cuddles for himself. Get well soon Yalom.

Do you have any Panacur wormer? It is effective against giardia - read the data sheet that comes with it and do the 3 day giardia protocol. Panacur is non-prescription and a simple thing to try before going to the vet. You can then tell the vet you did that already - as it may be something they suggest.

Hi both. Thanks for the advice - turned out he had picked up a nasty infection that was going round and needed antibiotics. I'm going to get some panacur in though for future occasions. He's pretty much back to normal now!
