Hello all, This is my first post, although I've visited the forum before. 6 months ago I adopted a 4yr old black rescue lab, he's fantastic, and very well behaved. Generally I am training him since we got him and he's improved a lot. However, we have a couple of remaining issues, one of them: he loves to track scents and then digging, usually around fields where we walk more often. Once he managed to get some mice and that was a nightmare the whole month after as he was so rewarded! Anyway, the problem is that while his recall is quite good, while he's digging I really think he does not hear me anymore. He's just super excited, and I have to go wherever he is and get him by the collar. He won't even look at a bone while he's digging. Many times I manage to prevent he gets to the point of digging by distracting him, but sometimes no matter what I do he will run after the scent. So, has anyone of you had a similar issue? In general the only trouble is to go and get him which is annoying but not a big issue, but the real problem is that I am really losing control of my dog when he's at a distance. PS- he's not compulsively digging, we don't have a problem in our garden, and I work at home so he's rarely alone for long periods of time. It's really scent tracking. Thanks for your advice!!
