We've been working on the sit and stay and the outside recall with our 3 month black pup, Holly. It's been going ok. Inside we can cover about 25 paces - the full length of the room. Outside it varies, but we're still working on it. Roast chicken gets the best results. We have a couple of fields behind our house so that's our usual morning walk and we do a bit of training as we go. This morning though, I'm walking along and little black shadow is not by my feet and not immediately behind me. Panicking I look around and there she is sat, looking at me all forlorn, about 15 meters away in the middle of the track. Wonder what's wrong thinks I but a couple of peeps on the whistle and she comes running. She's recalled well so I treat her. Check her over to make sure nothing's on her and her paws are fine. Off I go, down the track again. She follows then stops again. Hmm odd, peep peep, here she comes, treat for the recall. 3 times this happens before it dawns on me the little chancer has figured that running towards me = treat and so she'll just add a few of her own sit and stays and she'll get bonus treats! Outsmarted by a 3 month pup......but just for a wee while!!
Re: DIY sit and stay.... They aren't daft these pups you know. Funny what they can work out for themselves and yet can suddenly forget if we want them to do it. ;D
Re: DIY sit and stay....
Kind of, she has bits of one remaining. Any particular reason?
Maybe....... ;D "The lambie network" is strong on the forum
Re: DIY sit and stay.... Steph, don't be scared off....but a lot of the dogs have toy lambs and we have reason to think they and the dogs communicate... Anytime your puppy is getting the better of you, or steals food off the kitchen bench, it is probably the case that the Lambie Network has incited the behaviour. Putting the remains of the Lambie in the cupboard won't work as the communication is telepathic somehow (we are not sure how it works, exactly). Anyway, that's one theory We're not mad, truly....(maybe slightly).
Re: DIY sit and stay.... Yep, they're not as daft as they would have us believe. We've been doing recalls using me and the OH, one whistles and dishes out treats, the other then whistles - pup runs back and forth. We've progressed to moving while he's running to the other one so he has to find us. After 2/3 sessions, he swiftly learned that next stage was to run to the other one - not wait until he heard the whistle! But it embedded the whistle cue!
Re: DIY sit and stay.... Rachael, Jacqui......The Lambie network! What's their kryptonite? I think I need to get some!
Re: DIY sit and stay....
Rachael, Jacqui......The Lambie network! What's their kryptonite? I think I need to get some!
I would like the answer to that question too....where ever I look...lambie is always there....
Re: DIY sit and stay.... Absolutely. Steph, if you can answer that question you will have hit a gold mine.
Repeat experimentation has demonstrated that the source of the power is Australia, with particularly strong links to Canada and Dubai. The commanders of the network also know how to transfer power and instructions via other soft toys. Camels in particular. Small rubber surf board toys may also be suspect, and red lobsters are critical, but we're not sure how or why.
Re: DIY sit and stay.... I am pretty sure there is a new transmitter out there, and unfortunately it is highly unresistable and available from pets at home...the squeaky monkey...it has such a strong signal that Benson actually grabbed it of the shelf...so be warned! 8)
Re: DIY sit and stay.... That's a good ploy by the pet store - just keep everything in reach of the dogs and then the humans have to fork out. Now I do see a connection to the network, I had Holly in there twice in the last week or so - in part for supplies and in part for a good socialisation exercise, not that it helped much as she just rolls over and licks the feet of whoever tells her she's a pretty girl. No squeaky monkey's for her but she did do her best vacuum impersonation along the floor, just tidying up for them I'm sure she would tell me.
