I have a 6 month old Chocolate Lab and today he got nipped by another dog on the bridge of the nose just below the center of the eyes. It took hair and left about a 1/4 inch bald spot there. Will the hair grow back? Does anyone have experience with this? Thank you all for any answers

    Hi @Guinness St. James

I'm afraid that you'll have to wait. I've seen some dogs left with a scar, other you'd never know they were bitten. What did your vet say?

I understand that keeping up appearances is important. I'd be concerned too whether my dog now becomes reactive to other dogs, and in particular, towards dogs of that specific breed. Keep an idea on how your dogs reacts to other dogs. You may have to go through some desensitisation training as a result of the experience.

One of my pups was nipped just below her eye at 5 months, by a pack of collies. No broken skin, more of a graze and loss of some fur. It took a while to grow back in, but it did eventually. We have a few white hairs in that area though. She is still beautiful! :)

Agree with @Michael A Brooks and employ a bit of desensitisation training. Even get a friend with a calm, gentle dog to help out. You are aiming for a nice positive experience, quick meet and greet with other good-natured dogs. But give it a few days first! It can take a while for the stress of these sorts of encounters to fade.
