Re: dog insurance Hi and welcome to the forum We have PetPlan insurance for our dog (who is our second dog - we did not have insurance for our first dog). We're in Australia so don't have as many choices as people in other countries (pet insurance is a more recent thing here) but out of all the options we liked PetPlan because they cover teeth (as long as your vet checks the dog's teeth at the annual check-up and records this on the file), the continue to cover your dog when they get old (they just pay a bit less) and there just didn't seem to be an hidden nasties. Looking at the things we paid for for our first dog it would have been worth it for us to have insurance, even taking into account the annual premium and the excess.
Re: dog insurance Pet plan here too - it is certainly not the cheapest, but I'm really happy with both the cover and the company - had a complicated claim, and no quibbles. Was very doubtful buying it at first, it was expensive, but as things turned out it's been great for us. I had cover for slightly unusual things like physio and hydro treatments, that I didn't know I would need, but was very happy to find they would pay out.
Re: dog insurance I have PetPlan insurance too. Can seem a bit pricey on the surface compared to other companies but if you look closely at what they cover you get a lot more for your money. I've made a couple of claims and haven't had to spend a penny (lol) of my own money except for the excess as they will pay the vet directly rather than having to claim the money back yourself at a later date. As well as insurance I also keep a credit card exclusively for pet expenses that the insurance may not cover for one reason or another, and for emergencies.
Re: dog insurance Hi, I am with Pinnacle insurance. When meg was a puppy our vet recommended a plan which we started but I think they got took over by Pinnacle. (Meg is now 14 so a few years ago). No complaints at all. Meg is on various medications and they pay up very promptly.
Re: dog insurance I'm in the Uk, i use petprotect, they offered the same lifetime cover as petplan but with lower excesses and a higher claim limit per year not per condition and a discount for two dogs, much cheaper monthly payment too.
Re: dog insurance Pet Plan here too, good value for 2 dogs with a discount. Haven't claimed yet but it was the best policy I could find
Re: dog insurance I'm with Direct Line and have had to claim twice this year - firstly for tummy problems with Harley (found out she is wheat intollerant after lots of meds and tests), secondly for a recent emergency spay due to pyometra - phoned them today - she had the op on 11th August and they have agreed full payment. I pay about £10 a month, have £80 excess and £6000 per year cover per condition. I also pay £10 a month for a plan with my vets which covers unlimited sick consultations, nail clipping, discount on meds, flea, worming and microchipping. So far I have paid in £110 and must of had at least 15 vet visits so think I have saved loads
