My dog went to the vet for a scratched cornea back on the 1st of June. He was given medicated eye drops and by the middle/end of June it was back to looking normal and you could see that the scratch was gone when looking at it. Now a couple of weeks later the same eye is red and irritated again. I have put his cone on him just in case it was another scratch but you can't see one. He also has what seems like an excessive amount of mucus coming out of that eye. Any help with what it could be and if he should go back to the vet or not. I don't want to have to spend the fee if it something that can be taken care of at home. He is 9 years old.

I think he definitely needs to go back to the vet, unfortunately for you.

I have had scratched corneas and it was awful. So very very painful and utterly miserable. He may still have something in there that was missed due to the scratch. Definitely needs a trip back to the vet asap before it gets really infected:(
