Is it possible that my female dog has come into heat 4 days after receiving her 1 st hormone contraceptive implant ? ( we couldn’t spay her as she nearly died under the anaesthetic
Hi and welcome to the forum! Sorry, I don't have experience in the implant for bitches, however, I have used the Suprelorin implant in my (male) dog. I have seen some evidence that suprelorin can induce oestrus due to the initial surge in hormones in female dogs. I would suggest giving your vet a call if you are concerned.
Thank you … I will see him tomorrow but as always these things happen on a Sunday and I was concerned after her operation nearly killing her and would not have done this if I knew it would start her heat
Well, this isn't an area I have expertise in, so your vet will be the best person to talk too. Probably be best though to keep her inside or in the garden until you can get to the bottom of it, just in case she attracts a bit of unwanted attention. What medication did she have implanted out of interest?
I don’t know I just trusted the vet who told me he had never had a problem with this before ,although now I wish we hadn’t done it
