Our 10 year black lab has a problem with a sore tongue. We can see the tongue is red and also can see underneath the edge there are 2 rather large white spots which I assume are ulcers. Can anybody help ??? He does have a benign cancerous growth on the inside of his mouth which we do have removed when it becomes a problem size. We have had it removed/reduced 3 time now and previously we have has no probs with the tongue. The growth its self is not a problem but the ' ulcers ' are making it painfull for him to eat properly although he is still eating. Appreciate any help Thanks Martin + Louise.
Re: Dog Tongue Ulcers Hello and welcome. I'm so sorry your lab is suffering with his sore tongue. I'm afraid I have no advice, other than to talk to your vet, but I just wanted to extend my sympathies.
Re: Dog Tongue Ulcers I'm so sorry for your boy,I don't have any experience/advice to give except to second Karen...and visit your vet, You must be very worried ,let is know what happens Best wishes Angela x
Re: Dog Tongue Ulcers Hi, just wonderd if ice cubes would help to soothe them, I gave Otis ice cubes when he was teething, I also got some teething gel from pets at home (!) think its similar to adult ulcer gel. Hope your vet sorts him out, good luck X
Re: Dog Tongue Ulcers Thanks, we very are concerned. We have visited the vets but the antibiotics they prescribed have not worked. We are returning but just wondered if anyone had experience of a similar problem with better results. As you all know from owing labs they do not like having their mouths examined at the best of times , the only way for a thorough exam is under anaesthetic and we are very concerned at his age about this procedure just to examine his tongue. The growth in his mouth is nearly at a stage where it requires removing and we may bring this forward to enable the vet to examine the tongue better.
Re: Dog Tongue Ulcers Hi there and welcome to the forum. I'm afraid I can't help either but just wanted to say I hope it is nothing serious and that your dog recovers swiftly Pippa
Re: Dog Tongue Ulcers Thanks all We are booking in at the vets tomorrow. We have managed to take some photos of the inside of his mouth and tongue. We will let the vet have a look to make a better judgement. We aslo made a dog bowl stand to lift his food up to a high position and he ate much better so we are off to the pet store tomorrow to buy a proper food bowl stand. Martin + Louise.
Re: Dog Tongue Ulcers Let us know what the vet says, what a painful situation, hope a successful course of treatment can be prescribed Best wishes angela x
