So my my Labrador (5 yearsold on the 12th) does a very peculiar thing. Granted it was not trained very well but is still obedient and does usual commands like sit stop etc and can be excited easily but is still a lovely dog. However we do let it up on the sofa's etc and it like to walk along the back of them. If me and my family are in the sitting room watching TV it will at least once walk up behind you and curl its first half of its body round your neck with its head on your chest/neck area and seems do to it affectionately, any ideas what this is about, acceptance, dominance etc ?
Me, too!! Mine is very affectionate (gives sweet kisses) but not cuddly enough for my liking! I'd love a Labrador "scarf"!
Hahah thanks for the feed back guys, sometimes she will also put her head right in-front of mine if Im watching the TV, take it this is another attention thing !
I would love if I had a dog that did this! I'd say if it doesn't bug you, then just enjoy the cuddle! I've been rather educated on the whole dominance school of thought here on the Forum and have changed my viewpoints on it, but even if you do subscribe to it, my personal experience is that dominance and sitting on you are not all that connected. My dog Brogan used to love to sit on my lap and would plop his furry posterior down on me as soon as I sat on the floor or ground. And he was the least dominant dog I've ever met. OK, that's a very non-scientific sample size of one, but it has seemed to hold true with the many dogs I've had the honour of knowing over the years. Some are lap sitters (or in your case "shoulder sitters"), some aren't - nothing to do with the dog being/becoming dominant. Now, the important question...can we see photographic evidence of this rather endearing behaviour?
Unfortunately Emily I dont have a picture of her doing it currently haha, I will try and get one ! However when you are trying to lie down and you get a 34 kilo lab lie down on top of you it can get annoying !
They do get heavy! My first boy weighed in at 55kg and loved nothing more than to lie on my chest and have a snooze while I read a book.
Here is a picture of her Emily, https://www.instagram.com/p/BGUVmHutv7h/?taken-by=willhumphries1&hl=en and this is another good one https://www.instagram.com/p/BN6tqNdBTOn/?taken-by=willhumphries1&hl=en
Wow, she IS a big beautiful girl! I just love the long legs and soulful eyes. Putting the pics here for others without having to click:
The legs are long ? In person her front legs seem tiny, especially from a side veiw haha ! but thank you she is very nice !
