Davids post about poor ladys dew claw has reminded me.. I want to make up a couple of doggy first aid kits for both my cars and was wondering what people would suggest needs to be in them? I have absolutely loads of bandages at home that my sis got me after murphy cut his paw open, but what else?
Re: Doggy first aid kit Aha! Previous articles about this http://www.thelabradorsite.com/first-aid-for-labradors/ and http://www.thelabradorsite.com/emergency-first-aid-kit-for-labradors/ Items were..... Blunt ended scissors Tweezers Antiseptic wipes Gauze pads Bandages, Vet-wrap is ideal. Microporous adhesive tape A towel or thermal blanket Possibly also – Sterile saline eye wash – Ear wash – Tick remover - antihistamine, for allergic reactions. - something to induce vomitting. In case they ingest something poisonous.
Re: Doggy first aid kit Thank you this is is very useful must get one together and for the humans too x :-[
Re: Doggy first aid kit I would also add a tick remover and another, and...... maybe another Seriously though.... Pro-kaolin and/or some easy digest food - ?chappie, or Hills science stuff?? in a tin and maybe an anti-inflammatory like metacam? not sure what others think about other items. Bigger than my human first aid kit :-\
Re: Doggy first aid kit I my first aid kit, I've also added: Tongue Depressors (Use as a splint) Neosporin Cortaid Zip-loc Bag (If I need to bring a stool sample to Vet) Super Glue (To close deep cuts while hiking) Carprofen (Anti-inflammatory)
Re: Doggy first aid kit
I've got wire cutters in mine too!
yes Angela....that is a very good point. iam sure the active gun dog people carry ssomething like this. But on a serious note this could be a life saver if you walk out in the countryside. Not only if your dog jumps fences but there is so much wire and fencing in woodland and farmland there is a risk of tangling. Definitely an item to carry on walks.
