i have noticed the last 2 days that milly is drinking more than she normally does even though we have had good weather for weeks now she has one big drink about 6pm and just a small amount in the morning but suddenly she seems to drink a lot morning and eveing i am concerned as she only has 1 kidney and dont know if she needs to go to the vets or wait a bit and see how she goes

Trip to the vets for this for sure, taking a nice fresh urine sample with you to help them out.

Hope it's easily diagnosed and treated.

I would certainly take her to the vet as her drinking amount of water has changed given that she only has one kidney. Or at least give the vet a ring and he/she will almost certainly suggest you bring her in and as Lochan says with a urine sample.

I agree I would go to the vets. Our older dog Dee-Nee could drink the lake and it was a bladder infection. She is better now and back to normal water amounts.

A worrying time for you, but you have caught it quickly which is all to the good. Was she born with only one kidney?

My best wishes are coming your way! I am hopeful that since you caught this early all will be well with Milly in the long term :)
