Maisie ate the bottom half of a plastic sandwich bag. Not the part that seals, just the plastic. I thought she was chewing on cardboard so didn't catch it until she had swallowed it.

Now I'm assuming all I can do is watch her and if she doesn't eat or poop regularly or seems off/lethargic to go to the vet, since inducing vomiting is a no-go with plastic bags as they can get caught in the throat (which suggest to me they could get caught in the tummy).

She has eaten little flecks of plastic from a soda bottle label and those came out in her poop but that was quite a lot smaller of amount.

Any other advice I should be following to make sure she's okay? Timeline for seeing if it remerges from the back end?

Yes, your plan is good - just wait and be mindful of those symptoms. Might be a few days before you see it. You can feed her a big meal of bread (half a doz slices) to expand the stomach and carry the bag along through the system - my vet suggested that to us following consumption of illicit objects (not sure if it helps but it won't hurt...).

Don't be too stressed about this. My first Lab would've eaten several dozen plastic bags and all passed through with no problem.

Thank you! I'll follow through on the bread suggestion.. she'll be delighted! I did read through another thread with people's experiences with this, seemed like it wasn't too big a deal as long as she acts normal, so hopefully everything will be ok (I feel like I was the one who ate plastic, I feel quite stressed when I think about it… so I'll try not to think on it too much).

    Definitely don't stress :)

And, yeah, they're delighted to find that not only do they get to eat a tasty bag but also half a loaf of bread ::) :)

So it's noisier than normal? I'd say that's to be expected....trying to remember what my dog sounded like when he ate plastic!! The only thing you really don't want to hear from intestines is dead silence. :)

We have to give our dogs " ontbijtkoek" but I don't know if you can buy that in the UK! That makes his poo softer and takes everything what is in his bowel out in his poo.
It is also a relative mild laxative.

Some dogs eat poo bags, owners hope it will mean that they have ready wrapped poo :) On a more serious side, poo bags have been eaten and some with poo in, but all is well in the occasions I know of.

Lottie ate a small plastic sandwich bag once (I think it had a few treats in the bottom). It came out a couple of days later, disguised as poo but the rustling gave it away as I was clearing away the poo :).

Haha ick!! ANd yes this was a plastic bag that had once held treats that she found (been extra vigilant since to keep them put away!). It has not reemerged yet but she's eating/drinking/eliminating as normal so I assume it's just working its way out… slowly…

She tried to eat a highlighter today. Luckily I caught her about a minute into it and she had just bitten it and gotten yellow highlighter all over her tongue. I took a napkin and wiped her tongue a few times and got most of the colour off… google searches reveal should be non-toxic especially since she didn't eat the plastic… this dog, I tell ya…

    That ^^^^^ ;D

Ah, I'm sure she'll be okay, so try not to worry. So, it's not just my little hoover that eats everything in sight?! ;)

At this point I can't think it would cause any issues, it just must be working its way out slowly. That's fine. She's totally normal (i.e. her bats self).

And no it certainly isn't just Bonnie who eats whatever is in sight! I am definitely much more aware of the amount of litter on our public streets… Maisie particularly enjoys a piece of already-chewed gum half stuck to the sidewalk already..

Seriously. And garbage. The amount of times one piece of garbage has been picked up on the streets to and from our house and then been dropped for a "leave it" command and then picked up the next time we walk by there (and home) is, quite frankly, staggering...multiply that by every single other piece of garbage from discarded plastic cups to candy wrappers to old plastic bags to....let's just say I think he's got the plan figured out for maximum treats every walk very well....

Oh my goodness so funny to know other labs also "re-find" their "treat" they had to leave on the first round of the walk… before Maisie was really good at dropping things I had to prise a few things out of her mouth and I would throw them off away and then we'd walk on, and on our return walk she would FIND where I had thrown it and grab it again…

We also went through a period in the neighbourhood where people were eating a lot of bananas, because there was a discarded banana peel just about every block! It was staggering! And Maisie gets banana in her kong so she was like "excuse me, mum, this is actually proper food that YOU give me, I can't believe you're not letting me eat it, you're so cruel". ::)

Ok… so for any future forum users searching about plastic bags, it was ingested on APril 16, and it came out today, April 22… so 6 days…

I am only about 90% certain it came out the other end, but I *really* didn't want to investigate further… so I just bagged it up and threw it out haha.

Yes, some things don't reward a close investigation!!!

Glad to hear that the bag reappeared :)
