Having made a previous comment on here about my dog not eating things that weren’t edible, I think I may have jinxed myself. He has recently begun to eat mud. This only ever happens when we are walking him in the fields nearby. Lots of the dogs seem to have started to do it: digging holes in the turf and eating the mud. One starts and that seems to set all the others off. They also become quite frantic in their attempts to eat it – as if there wasn’t a whole field full of mud! Today after our walk he was sick and brought up a very large quantity of mud and grass. Any suggestion why this behaviour may have started and why only in these fields (it is not farming land and I do not think anything has been sprayed or added to the grass)?
Sounds a bit worrying. Could you walk him somewhere else for a while to break the habit? Not long until the mud is ice!
