This may be a silly question ... but is it okay for dogs to be outside when the partial solar eclipse happens in the UK tomorrow? We keep getting told about the dangers of people looking straight at the sun when there's an eclipse so I guess it may be the same if an animal happens to look at the sky, wondering why it's suddenly gone dark. On the other hand, I haven't seen anything in the media about keeping pets inside so perhaps it's not too risky.
Re: Eclipse question No, it's more dangerous to look at the normal sun than an eclipsed sun, dogs simply don't do it
Re: Eclipse question Labradors turn into French Bulldogs if you take them outside during a part solar eclipse. A werewolf during a full one... ;D ;D ;D I think it's dangerous for people, because people will deliberately look at the sun. There is no reason why a dog would do that, they will look away as soon as the glare starts to get strong. They are much more sensible than we are. Unless they are a Sun Dog, of course....

Re: Eclipse question Planning on being home from our walk before the eclipse; it might get quite dark if it's 85% and it freaks me out: that spooky stillness

Hahahaha I love frenchies [/quote] Oh no, not for me. I'm definitely keeping mine inside. I wouldn't risk that in a million years. Thanks for the heads-up ;D
Re: Eclipse question If I go for a walk during the eclipse, I'll let you know if there's any change in Lottie afterwards
Re: Eclipse question I'll be at work with 33 excited 10 year olds and not enough glasses to view it : - hoping for cloud cover than at least we can go outside to 'experience' it. Then I'll get Star Gazing Live on the big screen. (I still teach one day a week - Mr Boogs is on dog duty and will be out with them at that time, so I'll find out their reactions from him. I'd much rather be at home, but someone has to earn enough pocket money to pay for doggy toys!)
Re: Eclipse question The eclipse was nice and clear here, and I'm pleased to say, I still have two Labradors. No French bulldogs in sight. 8)
Re: Eclipse question Me too! Didnt see this thread and have posted a photo on another thread 'Eclipse and equinox'.
Re: Eclipse question Oh my goodness – went for a walk during the eclipse and this is what happened! Before... After...

Re: Eclipse question Well we had cloudless skies and DH set up binos, projector screen etc on the patio and we got great images. Mira did go a bit mad, but that may have been more to do with the postie (her favourite person in the world) and the neighbours all coming round to have a look and being more interested in the stupid screen than her! Cue attention-seeking behaviour and being sent indoors to calm down :
