Hi everyone, I have yet another question.

My 10-week old puppy is very clumsy (of course), and he took a little spill down my stairs on his way outside. It wasn't very very bad, but he did lose his footing and scooted down a little uncontrollably and then tried to catch himself. Anyway, he whimpered a little and was limping on one front leg for about 10-15 minutes but then was totally fine afterwards, running and being his normal hyperactive puppy self. After reading all kinds of things about elbow dysplasia of course now I'm worried that he has something wrong with him and that's why he hurt himself. He just went to the vet last week, and she said his hips and legs felt good. Am I being paranoid?

Also, don't worry we're being extra vigilant with him around the stairs now!

You are not paranoid just careful and concerned. Puppies are always hurting themselves its always very dramatic and sometimes very noisy. I
If they fall and hurt themselves its so hard not to worry. In general I keep an eye on them if they hurt themselves, if they stop limping in a few minutes i just watch to make sure its ok then let them get on with things. if they continue to limp I ring my vet for advise. They may say rest and see or bring into the vet. Hip and elbow dysplasia are a worry for us all, if you are concerned speak to your vet.
Hope he's ok and that you are too.
    hugs to you both

I agree you are far from paranoid. My girl was diagnosed with Elbow Dysplasia at 6 months. I was so careful, no excessive exercise, parents with good scores etc. I'm not saying that your little pup will end up with any problems I just think you are a loving kind owner to be so careful. Xx

Elbow dysplasia is a concern if you have a puppy that starts to limp but it sounds as if your puppy just banged himself which hurt. If he continues to limp check with your vet but in the meantime enjoy his early months and keep him away from stairs and jumping.
